Freeway Monster

As I've said before, I have som spare cash lying around and I need a new car. The VR4 is up there on the top of my list but so is an SS camaro or WS6 Trans Am. I know with the AWD the VR4 has the launch on the LS1's, but what about on the freeway, would all the AWD drivetrain loss just kill it for the VR4? Also have you heard which one handled better. Sorry if I am reitterating something that has already been posted cause my search came up blank. I had an SL once and the thing flew on the freeway, well I mean for an NA V6, but that is besides the point. I just don't want to get school on the I5 every so often when go up to San Francisco. Thanks for any help.

Ok, first off, vr4 handles better than the other two, I'm almost positive on that. Secondly, up top stock vs. stock, ls1s will walk away, however, all you gotta do is mod. With the mods I got, I walk away from stock ls1s on the freeway. Stock I walked lt1s and mustangs on the freeway and would have ls1s and cobras from the launch until somewhere in 3rd. It is all about whp. If you have AWD, you have a bit more drivetrain loss, so just mod a bit to keep up. You swap turbos, and very few things will keep up with you AWD parasitic losses or not. All 3 cars you mentioned are great cars, I have a few friends with TAs and I love em, but I'd take my vr4 any day.

As stated above, the VR4 will not beat the LS1's at higher speeds stock for stock. Don't take this to mean the VR4 isn't a worthy competitor though. It can handle itself quite well at high speeds. Also, as said, a few mods will make the Mits take the other two. It does outhandle them already. Interior alone would make me go VR4.

If you really want a freeway monster get yourself a DOHC FWD 3/s and TT it. :D

with around $100 in mods (BPU), you'll be able to to beat LS1 corvette's from a roll

Which is another reason to be impressed with those conversions :grinyes:

Yeah I have seen those, someone out here has one, but if only the SL was RWD instead of FWD. Then I would have been all for it. I guess you have to give up something if you want something else. I was thinking about building an RX7 FD with an LS1 but I don't know if it would be worth it. I am thinking about just getting a VR4 to cruise with an not doing any mods.....well maybe that two piece lip with a 99 conversion that 3sx has ::drool:: man I love the look of that. But tell me would you guys recommend this car to someone who wants something that corners predicatbly and smoothly, I had a GSX and I like how it could drive itself. I also had an SL and the thing was very stable, would this bee that much different, sorry haven't gone in a VR4 yet..... sad but true. I don't want to regret getting some other car over a VR4 I was thinking like a WS6, SS LS1, TT Supra, or RX7...don't know but I have always liked the VR4... wodner what the mpg is.

I'd personally go with the FD. 3000gts are nice cars but an FD... mmm. I duno why you'd swap a LS1 into the FD though. Try the new renesis or whatever rotary engine and turbo that thing. would be awesome.

As far as cornering is concerned it's up to the driver not to freak out.

I just checked mine a week ago. 1992 VR4. I got 25mpg on the highway in West Virginia (up and down hills).
As for handling, I think that's the greatest advantage of the awd. I can feel the line tighten up midcorner when I feed in more power. The front wheels just seem to dig and pull the car around the corner without being overwhelmed like they would on a FWD car.
