Parts for old Hondas...

It has been suggested to me that Honda maintains a better stock of new parts for older bikes than other Japanese manufacturers. It may take a few days or weeks to get parts for your 1965 Honda 305 Dream, but they are available. The other manufacturers do not stock parts for older models, even those as little as 10-15 years old.

Any thoughts or experiences in not being able to find parts for older bikes?

Oh very much so. My newest bike is a 1985 Kawasaki (Read: 1985 Kaw rebuild questions) I also have a 1981 Yamaha SR250T and an 82 Honda CM400E. I found the parts for the honda really easily, walked into the dealer, they told me they wouldn't be able to get em, I convinced em to look it up (That dealership is AWFUL) and there they were, 2 week wait but I got everything I needed. The yamaha... lol, can't even hardly find a tire for it. And the Kawasaki, haven't really looked heavily enough, so far it's been difficult, going to have to find another dealer, found one about 60 mi away, but its on the way to my weekend job, so I'll stop in, but parts seem to be alot harder to find. Now I've never used them, but powersportspro.com has a thing called partsfish and they have EVERYTHING. everything's listed as orderable, though I've never placed an order, so I don't know if it's mostly for reference or its' actually a good parts store.

My Yamaha dealer says they cannot get anything other than basic maitenance parts for my '84 Maxim 750. I am looking for flex lines for the brakes.......which I would have thought is pretty essential and should be a common enough part to warrent stocking them.

Lesson learned for me......limit my old bike buying to Hondas.

It's not just Honda. I was blown away at the parts that were available at the dealer to rebuild the 72 Yam LT100 that we rode as kids.

funnily enough i'm having trouble finding parts for my '03 honda.

not replacement but aftermarket mods but it seems that the 954 was the black sheep of the honda world. parts available for 900,929 and 1000 but not mine. :disappoin

when i had a yamaha that was 7 year old and could get parts from the dealer. it was an import so parts had to come from japan

do you know where i would be able to find a shop manual for a 1980 honda cb 750. I'd really like to get my hands on one.
