Wiring Anyone??

91 GMC Sierra half ton , 305 engine

Suddenly one day my cd player/radio and dome light stopped working.
I found the CRTSY fuse blown and replaced it, only to blow again right away when battery power put back on. This is a 20 amp fuse. Sounds like a short right? Would anyone know where to start looking or if this has happened to anyone before? I disconnected my cd player to see if that was shorting the system and tried again, no go, there's no power getting to it anyway. I'm not electrically inclined but if lead in a direction , maybe I could figure something out!! What do you think guys?

Start at the fuse box and follow the wires out of the fuse that is blowing. Be sure to bring your patience and plenty of cold beer it could take a while

well you have to check all circuits affected by this fuse if you take a 12v lamp and make a simple circuit 2 wires to lamp and remove fuse and install a jumper from the wires on lamp to both open fuse cavities your lamp should ligh up then start wiggling wiring harness and have someone keep an eye on lamp when lamp goes out you are in the shorted area then check around there you will find something

Check the cig lighter and make sure it works. Manytimes pennies get stuck in the socket and short out the system.

Thanks guys for the great ideas and advice.
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a dime, directly in the socket of the cig lighter!!! I don't smoke, so the socket is accessable and the ash tray is full of change , so sure enough , I replaced the fuse and all is normal.
This was the second time I was told to check the cig lighter for this problem. A mechanic friend told me the same story so it must be somewhat common. I had never heard about it before.
All is well , thanks again

Unfortunately, I know this all too well. I own a shop that specializes in remote starters and high end stereos. You'd be amazed how many people come in and rip my butt over a penny in the cig lighter socket!
