96 Firebird....flood Car W/ Tranny Problem........

Ok, as many of you know, I bought a flood recovery car and had a few problems and got them fixed. however...........

my mechanic called me and told me he discovered that there was water in the tranny (I suspected it......) and he said he did a system flush until he saw red tranny fluid.

he told me that i should bring it back in a couple of months to do another tranny flush (just to make sure all the crap and water is out)

but his parnter said I was in "deep shit".


I didnt take the car out since I got it (around the block a few times and I dont even think I put more than 2 miles on it since I got it.)

does anyone know for sure that I may require a new tranny?

I drowned a few Jeeps in my time.

So long as all the water is flushed out ahd the electronics still work, (that is, it still shifts properly) you should be fine.

If there is any water in your trans after the flush, yout fluid will turn into a pink milkshake quite quickly.

Drive it a bit and if the fluid on the dipstick looks clear, there is no water. If it goes opaque and milky, then there is still water and a further flush is needed.

BTW I hope your mechanic dropped the transmission pan and changed the filter, too.

lol......nah.....hes an "everything mechanic". Hes one of the best around. He flushed it out and it seems fine but he suggested bring it back a week after the car has been driven around in.


he also checked the rear and it too, had water in it. it turned the fluid in the rear into a "YOO-HOO" color and it was somewhat "thick". He flushed it out as well. wish my luck!
