Chrysler Stratus Export Edition (i.e. Cirrus) Remote Keyless Entry RKE

I live in Argentina, and I bought a 98 Stratus 2.5 LX Autostick Export Edition. It´s the Cirrus, but sold with another name outside the US. My problem is that my remote broke, and I don´t have a spare (duh). So the engine dies after 5 seconds.
Chrysler Argentina says they do not have any spare remotes (Chrysler part number 56009113) and it will take 30 days to get one from the US. Can you believe it?
I was looking in eBay US for a spare remote, and everybody´s selling the same remote which is different from mine.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7959336758&category=33723&sspagename=WD1V
My VIN number is 1C3EMB6H5WN278296. Maybe someone can tell me if a standard US remote will work or if I need to buy a German Daimler remote.
Thanks guys.
Axel
PS: My avatar has a picture of my current RKE, and on the back it says
- "Rockwell, Made in the USA"
- "BZT G117 996F" with the German Eagle
- CEPT LPD-D FW
no mention of an FCC code, since this car was made in the US, but not for the American market

The dealer disabled the immobilizer system because there are no spares for this system in the whole world! I thought he was lying, so I emailed DaimlerChrysler and they confirmed it.
At least they did not charge me anything. Now I have to install an aftermarket anti-theft system.

This is the contact info for the person who disconnected the anti-theft for me. Maybe if you have an official DaimlerChrysler dealer contact him, he might give you the info you need.

Hello,
I'm located in France and I have the same problem. However Chrysler says that there is not spare part for the remote and the antitheft module (Rockwell) and they are UNABLE to disable it !!!
So please if someone knows how to disable it, I would be more than only pleased.....
Thanks

Axelm,
do you know how your local dealer could disable your antitheft ? HAs he used the DRM tool or just modified something on the car ?
I tried to send an email to the garage DIESEL but with no answer... I'm not confortable to call them directly...
Thanks
Stephane

Hi,
I've got the same problem and worse. I did not recive a spare remote and key form the previous owner becouse they got lost and the key that I do have doesn't open any doors. So the only thing I've got is one key and one remote. Now the remote is still working but sometimes it doesn't. Now my local Chrysler dealer has also told me that there are no spare remotes anywhare.
Are they kidding? If there aren't what is the solution?
I mean they told me that they can fix me a remote so that the car starts but not unlockes that they can't do.
What am I saposed to do change all the lockes on the car have 25 remotes hanhing on my key chane and carry around 8 spare batteries if one dies.
If this is Chryslers policy for spare parts that was the last Chrysler I hav ever bought.
axelm -> who did you contact? I've searched on Chrysler's website for a contact but the information there is useless and I just keep going around in circles.
What are my choices here?
If I were able to get a key from a juked car can it be reprogramed?
Or shuld I just drive the car to the junk yard now while I can still turn it on or even just unlock it.
Thanks for the information and help.
Bye

Hi
I found a guy in Hungary who could reprogram the PCM (Engine ECU) to disable the antitheft device... I could crank my car again.
It was the only solution as Chrylser was telling me to trash myt car to the junkyard !!!
THis guy asked only 300 euros to to that... It is a lot but cheap regarging buying a new car
His mail is
info@check-engine.hu
His name is Bordas Attila.
You can visit his website, he seems specialized in electronics devices...
Two days after receiving my ECU he sent me a video showing the car crancking with my ECU... I've transfered the money, he sent me back the ECU, and it worked !!!
Best

Stephman74 -> Thanks for the quick reply.
Can you explain what had to be done and this disabled the anti-theft block?
Were you then able to fit your car with an after-market lock/unlock kit?
Because my problem is that the ignition key also doesn't open any doors. I can unlock via remote and then turn on with the key but the doors are a no go. The anti-theft block is actually not that important who would want to steal a 10 year old V6 Chrysler. So the mane thing for me is so that I can open and close the car and drive it. And also have a spare if I loose it by accident.
Chrysler really said that you should scrap the car? Mine is in mint condition there's less millage then my 7 year old car and it runs great why would anyone want to throw away a perfectly good car like this when there is other crap on the road that would gladly deserve to be crushed.
Do you think if I got two original remotes from some scraped cars that they could reprogram them to work in my dealership?
I'm sorry I didn't fully understand what you did with your car that's why I'm asking silly questions.
Thanks again at least there's a glimpse of hope now.

There are no silly questions.... but sometimes silly answers !
Sorry if I've not been so clear in my description. First I'm not english mother tong but anyway, I've not been clear in my mind too
:-o
So let me start again, beeing more explicit.
I've a 1997 V6 Stratus (Stratus is export name of the Cirrus). 10 years ago, insurances companies here in Europe were pushing the car manufacturers to add antitheft functions in this kind of cars. So an aftermarket system has been designed and added when importing the Stratus. This was made by Rockwell.
This antitheft is also locking/unlocking doors.
Last summer, my remote decided to stop working and I hadn't an other one ! I went to Chrysler dealership and they told me that :
1. No spare available for Rockwell antitheft or remotes
2. To change the antitheft device + remotes with a second source one available from Chrysler
3. and maybe to change the PCM (Engine Electronic Unit)
Price was more that 1500 euros !!!!!
Having no other solution, I've accepted to send my car there... (150 euros for transportation :-/ ). After 15 days, no new from them. So I called and the guy explained me that the replacement antitheft was no longer available too and that they have NO solution. I was really upset and asked if he was kidding... But apparently not ! When I asked if I had to put my car in the junkyard, he just told me that apprently I have no other solution !
I've phoned the french chrysler consumer service who told me that I could lodge a complaint but that it won't bring anything as they knew the problem, I was not the first one and they have nothing to help us...
For my job I had the opportunity to go to Detroit in US and could go into a dealership. They could find my car in their system but which was initially without antitheft as it was an exportation model...
damn!
I became depressed ! This story took 2 months. I paid again 150 euros to send my car home and I started to look for help on the web... as you are doing....
After several help request on forum, Bordas Attila from Hungary gave me several solutions :
1. Find a spare PCB + antitheft + remotes in junkyard and change it myself
2. He could modify the PCM parameters in order to disable the antitheft function.
After few days looking in junkyards, I couldn't find spare parts so I've sent my PCM to him.
He made the parameter change, made a video showing my a similar stratus running with my PCM connected
I paid him and I had just to remove the Rockwell unit and mount back the PCM in the engine to bring my car to life again.... He asked me 300 euros to do that. And of course he didn't told me how he could get the information of what parameter had to be changed in the PCM....
The previous owner of my car had the strange idea to mount an aftersale alarm with antitheft in addition to the original one because he felt that the original remotes were not powerful enough to open the doors far from the car... I don't really understand that but anyway...
So as you guessed, removing the original Rockwell unit disable also the electrical door lock/unlock. But as I had this second aftermarket device, I've an other remote which still work fine.
So in conculsion, if you can't find spare parts to your local junkyard (PCM + antitheft unit + remotes) then you could consider contacting Mr Bordas He will ask you some pictures to identify if this is a model he can deactivate... If so, then you should bring back your car to life and then just install an aftermarker alarm in order to retrieve the electrical door lock/unlock function....
I hope this time I was clear enough. Do not hesitate to ask if you have other question. I'm knowing too much how depressing it is to have a car impossible to cranck just for a stupid thing like that.
Best
Stephane

Stephman74 -> Thank you again for the extensive description now I have a lot more information than I was given by the dealer. And as for your English it's perfect I just wasn't clear on everything the first time.
Well my problem is the ignition lock and door locks don't match apparently the ignition lock was damaged and had to be changed.
I have contacted Mr. Bordas Attila via email and he has also explained a few things but I was still not clear if I could still have the remote unlock locking.
Now I only need to find someone with the needed skills to install the after market remote control system that I will be satisfied with and get Mr. Bordas to disable the anti-theft and the vehicle will be reliable again.
I mean it's really a shame because the vehicle that I own is really in very good condition and I would hate to not have it prefect working order.
Since my partner is in the US I was thinking of asking him to find two spare remotes fobs there but if you say this is only a Eurpoe thing only that is out of the question since I'm not going to find any in Europe anyway.
And I would even be willing to pay 1500€ or what ever if the they would just solve the problem. Is Chrysler really serious, this is not something I would expect and the unfortunate thing for them is that I was going to buy another new Chrysler 300C (this one is now my better half's and used to be mine but I still love driving it) but in light of these problems I'm thinking that I'll first see how this problem is fixed and then think really hard if I'm willing to buy another Chrysler that might or might not have spare parts in three years (I just might want to open my car once in a while ;) ).
This is really disappointing if I treated my customers this way I wouldn't even be able to own a car.
By the way you mentioned that you had to cover the cost 2x150€ for transport to the garage I think you got ripped off since you sent your car there under the presence that it could be fixed and it is an inconvenient problem that they should be able to fix they should cover the cost of transport. Not to mention that I might just be willing to bill them for some other expenses this inconvenience has cost me. Witch by the was is permitted by EU law (did the same thing with a TV two years ago and they were forced to cover all of the expenses that derived form the problem). I don't know why customers who pay a lot of money for an over priced car anyway should have to deal with stupid problems that the manufacturer would have handle in the first place.
Anyway thank you for all of the information and I hope I'll be successful with my Stratus as well.
Best regards and good night

Hey guys,
so I was able to get two fobs from a trashed Stratus and took them down to the dealers and they programed them for me. But unfortunately thanks to a friend of mine (I don't know how) he was able to get one of the fobs not working again. The other two (the original and the new one) still work fine. But I suspect that the third still works but it just doesn't register to the car. So I was thinking that I would program it again. But I don't want to go to the dealer if the fob doesn't work so I'd like to program it myself.
I was wondering if someone would be so kind and explain to me what I would need to do to program the fob or do I really need to go to the dealers?
Thanks for the info.
