hey there... got an 86 fc ... GLU ... 5speed ... 13b motor n/a ... etc.

question is ... how much oil should the thing really use ? i understand its a rotary and its gonna use some because of the oil injection... but ... i changed the oil in it last week and i walked out to it this mornin' started it up, and the oil light wouldn't go out...

i pulled the dipstick out and nothing was there... i put a quart in, nothing... another.... started reading
another ... about halfway... another... full i filled the gas tank up and drove it about 50 miles this evening, and it was fine... didn't seem to use any at all.. the car has 142,000 miles on it (approx) and came from texas... otherwise in great shape.

sometimes if it is parked for 15 or 20 minutes, after being run and driven until its fully heated up ... and you speed off, or tach it up a bit thru the gears, it'll let out a hell of a cloud... but the power is great, it always starts (After the replaced ECU plugs) and drives great, only problem i've noticed is that it has a slight hesitation around 3,000rpm (Where the secondary injectors kick in)... and it goes right away ... i read in another forum that this is a grounding problem ?

i know that apex and side seals do tend to wear out ... and i was told almost all of the car's miles were highway driven... so if anyone could offer some advice on this i'd be happy .... maybe i'm using the wrong oil ? just some plain jane 10W30 from wal-mart. ..... thx all !!

check to see if the oil drain plug is on tight. Have you noticed where you lost the oil? It takes around 3-4 quarts to fill it(and btw if its low it only takes 1 more quart for it to show full) I believe it uses a quart like every 1500 miles.

The secondary injectors kick in a 3800 rpm. check the faq,i'm sure it covers a link to how to solve the problem.

the car sits in front of my house... and at work when and IF i work ... lol

it has a small oil pan leak, from what i can tell... it leaves a few drops (and literally, drops) here and there.... but that's it.

but it was almost OUT of oil from what i can tell... it took 4 quarts to bring it to the full line.

it was driven maybe 2 tanks of gas... gets terrible mileage, but that's a rotary thing i guess... its not much better than the chevy truck my dad drives... MAYBE about 500 miles... MAYBE.

thanks for the info about the surge, i'll look into it.
