Radiator repair

Our old 91 Corsica (3.1 V6)has sprung a leak right in the area where the top hose connects to the radiator. It is cracked in an area that is at the base of the (darn plastic) spout. Somewhere along the line I either put too put stress on it or it simply cracked. I don't like to use stop leak and would like to try to see if there is something I can fix with without removing. I tried some steel putty stuff I use for emergency repairs and figured it would hold since it is rated for heat etc., but it won't hold. Anyone had any luck repairing this sort of thing, or is it best to remove and take to a radiator shop?
