(Ok its my cousins car not mine but still he's like my brother.)
1991 Honda Accord LX w/ 167k miles.
He just had the Timing, Alternator, AC belts replaced as well as a balancing shaft. Now in the mornings when the car is cold it makes a weird screeching noise for 1-2 seconds then goes away. It does not make the same noise after it is warmed up or when its in the middle of the day. Also he had a buddy install the belts.
What could it be? :)

Loose altenator belt.
Are there any long or short term damages if he doesn't fix it right away?

I would say it's a loose belt, which one? i couldn't tell ya without seeing. If work was just done take it back to place that did the work.
The belt could seperate and break which is never a good thing.

tell your friend to tension the belt and make sure they are properly sitting in the grooves
