I bought my 97 GP GT in october. I have a series of STRANGE electrical problems. I recently had the dash apart to change one of the bulbs behind the DIC (GREAT writeup on THIS forum, Helped ALOT). That went fine, but i forgot to reconnect the fog light swith, duh. Any way took is off again to change ANOTHER bulb behind the DIC,no biggie, should have changed em all anyways. But i put it all back together reconnecting the fog light switch this time. Immediatly thereafter the problems began. In an attempt to make sure the fog lights still worked i flippped the headlight switch all the way to the right, and the FUEL pump initializes!!!! Car starts fine runs fine but i run to the store after the headlight switch discovery, and i turn the key to off the car stays running with keys in my pocket! The only way to turn it off is to flip the headlight switch to on and off again. When the car stays running with key out the car runs at idle but the tach bounces between 2500 and 3200. when it is still running with key out and i go to "Turn" it off with the headlight switch, the ABS pump goes nuts. Sorry So lenghty i just wanted to put all the details in there. My hope is it is a failing igniton switch, or headlight switch. I have heard some say may be a ground, body ground to the battery is fine. ANY advice would be appreciated in advance. Thank you all and thanks to AUTOMOTIVEFORUMS.com
should also mention 3800 series 2 NON supercharged, Have HUD and Detailed DIC with fuel mileage metering, with power heated drivers seat
should also mention this is an intermittent problem about 50/50

Not a big electical nut. But, did you ever go back to when it was OK. Seems like the fog light switch started all this. Did you ever remove it (unhook it) and see if it goes away?
Just a thought. Good luck.

Swapped ignition switch, for the hell of it. While dash was apart went to diagnostic mode, disconnecting everything, turned out to be the HUD switch???? Took it apart and the dimmer wheel uses these hair thin pieces of wire to scrape across a circuit board, they were all bent to hell. straightened them put it back together, no HUD took it back apart and i supposed the switch is NON serviceable, they were all broke off!
Ordered a new switch for 34.99 meanwhile there is a pint size hole in the dash with no HUD, oh well
BTW THANKS GM
