ok well i have heard about the 2.8 to 3.4 and 3.8 swap on a camaro...now this is the same on the firebird right...they have the same engine right...also how hard would this swap be...i mean is it basicly a plug and play swap or do i have to do a lot of wiring and fabrication...please just give me a link or something to a site that tells me all about it if its easier

So you have a Firebird with a 2.8? What year? And yes, depending on the years, the Firebirds and Camaro's have identical engines. I currently don't have a link to a site, but maybe John might have one for you. But a V6 to V6 swap really shouldn't be that difficult. Depending on what your wanting to swap to that is. My guess is that if your wanting to do a 3.8 swap, then it might be a little more difficult. That's just my guess though. But anything 3.4 and below should be a really easy swap. The 2.8's, 3.1's, and 3.4's are all practically the same engine in some sense. GM just bored and stroked out the 2.8 to a 3.1, as with the 3.4. They're all the same 60 degree engines. If I'm not mistaking.

EDIT: Actually yes, now that I think about it, if you did a 3.8 swap, you would need a new tranny as well. So if your wanting to keep the swap cheap, then I'd suggest that you stayed within the 2.8's -> 3.4's

I've heard really bad things about the 3.4, bubt since I've never driven one, I have no idea.

I can vouge for the 3.1 tho. I had a 3.1L in my Lumina, and now I have one in my Firebird (magicly it gained 20 hp tho :D). She sounds very good, and just about how the 305 sounds. The 3.1L with a 5-spd can keep up with a 305 with an automatic, I don't know about beating it, Ill let you know soon enough tho ;)
