Extreme Noise

Well this problem has been on me for awhile, but since I know I can get a true answer here (not a $1,000 one) I'm going to tackle it. I've had my engine replaced, all went well but this weird noise has been bothering me for awhile. The replaced all timing belt components when they got the engine in, but I could SWEAR that the noise was from under the timing belt cover. They said it was the alternator, bad bearing, and that it wasn't covered under the work that they did. Nice answer huh. I've stuck with that answer until now, with my probing $5 computer microphone I've managed to record the "sounds from below"...maybe the waterpump although it's new?? I'll let you guys decide. Thanks a lot!!

try checking under the cover, check visualy for any rubbing against the cover or any other components. it might need tightening.

the cover has been off since I discovered the noise was coming from there...it all looks clean and new and the belt is tight, nothing rubbing I can see.

also...what's this?? sorry for all my questions, but I'm trying to learn as much I can about this thing..guess you have to start somewhere. Is that some type of oil line? It comes out the back of the block and has a bolt stuck in it.

I'd see if the belt is rubbing on the cover.
But I'll tell you my story. I heard a Tapping/Klacking sound coming from my timing cover. Pin pointed it to the bottom of the cover. Never thought anything of it. Then I blew a head gasket so I had to pull all that BS off. Found a 1/2" bushing wedged/melted into the lower timing cover and when the belt hit it to wedge it in the cover it caused a "V" shaped gash in the center of the belt. Never heard the Tapping/Klacking after the new belt and taking out the bushing.

hmmm that could be it huh...well I only inspected it from the top timing belt cover, not the lower one...I can't really see how to take it off is it just bolts and screws and it comes right off or do you have to take something else off to get it to go.

That Belt Look Messed Up. Unfortunatly I Would Not Know, A Flash Light Might Help, Or A Manual.

To take the lower cover off you have to take off your crank pully. (Not fun) I had hell getting mine off, along with a few other people here on the board.

You can take you're alternator belt OFF (afcorse when the motor is OFF) and then start and see if it's still making noice the same goes for power stearing and A/c compresor...you take off belts until it stops making noise if all are off and it's stil making noise then those options are out...it's something else

right..I'm taking it to the shop for them to fix it because I know for a fact that one of the noises has to be coming from under the cover, although the alternator does seem to have a slight bearing noise to it. they cover anything on the timing belt so I'll have them do the labor. (get my money's worth :P )

two things.
1st: yeah u have a problem w/ the timing belt. get it to the shop and if u can, take these pics w/ u. safest bet, TOW IT THERE!! that nice tear/cut/gouge/wutever, is putting sum major stresses into the belt right around it and it could snap anytime. they may have skimmed on the maintenance and not replaced the water pump. it could be bad or the tensioner pulley also could be bad causing u'r squeal. also if they over tighten the belt. it's even posible to get a brand new bad water pump if they didn't check it first and just put it on.
2nd: that hose u asked about in the earlier pic, that looks like u'r hose for u'r PCV valve. u'll wanna get a new hose to replace the cut one, and check to make sure u atleast still have the PCV valve. w/o it u do run the chance (small chance but still a chance) of blowing up u'r engine. like, no joke, kaboom!

thanks for the help. Only thing is that those pictures aren't of my belt, but of Sparsky's, my belt appears to be in good shape, it was replaced 5,000 miles ago when the engine was put in along with the waterpump. I'm taking the car in tommorow so I'll have results for you guys then. Thanks a lot.
