what happens when cv joint completely go? beyond fixing, how will the car act, or not act?automatic trans btw

heres why:::
so i was drving my sidekick 1 day amd noticed a high pitched whine from somewhere under it, then lost power (like the thing was in neutral) periodically worked tho enuf to get it home anyway. i just fig'd it was the tranny and parked it and bought the celica, but now im researching cv ???'s and read somewhere that a bad joint not necessarily broke but real bad might cause the car to seem as if its in neutral...could this be my prob??? while under it last week i saw that the left boot was torn to ####

meh i dont think that is it, put it this way if you turn the wheel hard left to hard right does it kinda stck for a second? does it clank or make any unnatural noise from the halfshaft?

just noticed a nice 12" scratch over the rr wheel no $$$ for paint now, know of any good graphix sites?
