would it be possible to bolt a 700r4 tranny from a 83 trans-am with a 305 to a 90 camaro with a 3.1? how hord would it to be to modify or adapt the tranny to bolt up? i can get on from a freind for 50 dollars and it has less than 50000 miles on it. its just sitting under his pool table. i cant afford to buy a v-8 for this tranny. i wish i could but im stuck with what i have for now. i know that some companies make adapter brackets to fit tranny's and enignes that are never ment to go together, go together. (like a pinto engine and a vw bus transaxle) does anyone know if i will need one of these adaptors or if there even made to fit a v-8 tranny to a v-6? any idea's of who makes them and how much thay are? im also asuming i will need bearings and the such too. will they come with the bracket? any help will be appriciated.
Thanks,
Jess

yeah is been dead for about a month or so and i just had my t-birds head gaskets both go bad at the same time. i hate that car it needs a new engine cause i had to drive it a ways with the bad gaskets and i started grinding bearings. the estimate for the repair (new engine) is like 2500 dollars. i would rather fix my camaro(even though its in alot worse shap) i like it more. but i dont have a lot of money right now so im looking to put a tranny under it for as cheap as possible. Thanks, Jess

i'm not sure, but i think all you'd need to change is the flexplate and torque converter from the old tranny to the new/used one. I think it'll just bolt right up from there.

there's also the fact that the 83 has a cable driven speedo and the 90 is probably electric, so you'll prolly hafta swap that assembly over as well, if that's even possible.

sorry... i'm doing a V6 to V8 swap and the answer is no... it will not bolt up. the 3.1 is a 60 degree engine and 8 cylinder engines are 90. the bolts on the tranny follow these angles. I had to do my reasearch to find the answer to this question. if you don't believe me, get under your car a measure the distance from bolt-to-bolt on the tranny (where it connects to the engine) and then measure the other tranny. Same model transmission, but they made different versions of it for the 3.1L and below and there is another version for the 3.8L and up (a V8 would be atleast a 4.3L)

also you have the electric speedo problem, and an adapter, if anyone makes one for that will cost $250-400... not worth the trouble... search around some more for a V6 tranny.
