Coolent Flush

I have a 95 Tbird 4.6 v8. I just recently flushed the coolent and added fresh antifreez at a 50 -50 mix. It is running just a little warmer than usual. Tempersture seems to vary up and down more than I noticed before. I was wondering if there is air trapped in the block and if there is, how do you bleed it out to be sure? I have a crappy Haines manual that is terrible on specifics. Any Ideas?

I just run mine with the radiator cap off and add to it until it reaches the top. Be careful of Ol' Faithful, tho! There is also a cap that says it should be removed when adding coolant. It's just above the water pump. I'm not sure if this is for bleeding the system, so if anyone knows, please post.

Thanks but, I have what is called a closed cooling system and there is no radiator cap persay. Just a resivuoir for adding coolent. Also I can't see anything on or near the thermostat housing the says bleeder valve or anything else for that matter. However, it's been 3 days since I flushed the coolent and I think that it is finally settleing in. I'm not seeing quite the fluctuation in the temperature guage as I did after I first flushed the systom. It also seems to be running at a more normal temterature too. Thanks for your help.

The 3.8's have that "remove before filling" cap. It is to help bleed the system as it is the highest point.

Aha! Thanks man. Didn't know that cap was only on the 3.8's. I have that Prestone flush kit installed on my heater-to-engine hose, so I have just been using that to bleed it. Not a bad little kit for $3.50 at Wally World.

If you did not use a factory thermostat with the "giggler" in it (used as an air bleed) you can and often do have troubles bleeding all the air from the cooling system.

Various methods have been fiven for solving this problem, the easiest is to use the correct (factory) thermostat to begin with.

Believe me, most of the aftermarket "will fit" replacement stats are pure junk, and of lower quality than the OE parts.

I NEVER install anything but a Motorcraft stat in a Ford, it's just not worth it.
