explorer ipod hookup

I have a 97 ford explorer xlt. It has the original stock am/fm cassete player with cd changer control. Does anyone know if I can hook up my ipod directly to the stereo instead of having to use a cassete adapter. I remember reading somewhere that I install some kind of adapter so that I just have to hit the cd changer button and it will play the ipod. Any help would be appreciated

Just buy the fm transmitter adapter for the ipod and tune the radio to the proper station.

nah i wouldn't buy an fm transmitter.. unless you buy a really expensive high end one, it's useless.. i've tried many different models and they're ok at first but once you turn it up a little or get into really detailed songs then you can hear the fuzzy parts of the fm transmitter.. this goes ESPECIALLY on the explorer where you have to dangle the fm transmitter next to the window nearest to the antenna.. get a tape adapter, i got one for 19 bucks and sound quality is AMAZING

I would recommend an inline fm modulator this allows you to hook directly into the antenna line instead of broadcasting it is the same price as the fm transmitters at about 29.99. Check out like crutchfield.com "Scosche FM-MOD01 Modulator" now if your factory has a cd changer line you can install a 59.00 - 119.00 set up to hook into that For 96 & up there is the "USA SPEC Auxiliary Interface(59.00)" or "USA SPEC IPOD Interface (119.00)". just go to crutchfield enter your vehicle info --> stereo amps and audio --> ipod in your car --> ipod & prtable to factory radio or just search for "USA Spec"

I've got a 2003 Honda Civic that I am trying to do the same thing to and I bought this Fm-mod01. anyways when its all plugged up and everything i get a very high pitched whining noise. it wont go away. i have it properly grounded. any ideas on what to do? has anyone gotten one of these to work properly?

So which one do i need. do i need to hook it up and then rev the engine up so to see whether or not its the alternator thats causing the whine? whats the best way to tell what is causing the whine so i can know what part to buy. also do you know if circuit city or best buy would sell these things so i dont have to order it. be nice if i could get it by this weekend. thanks for your help

circuit city and best buy carry these, normally, to tell there are a few things, first is the fm modulator powered by a 12v feed, if so alternator more than likely if powered by something like the power antenna wire its the antenna , second do you have a power cord plugged into the ipod, if you unplug the power does it still whine. 9 out of 10 times its alternator related and getting the filter and installing it at the alternator will kill all the noise easy, and if you dont have a car charger for the ipod and you get one, you will need this filter anyway because when the charger is plugged in you tend to get whine.

The modulator is powered by a 12v feed and also i do have a charger and when i plug it in it causes the noise to be so loud i cant even hear the music. so is this alternator filter hard to install and where exactly do i install it. i am not totally in the dark on how to do this just want to make sure i get it done and fixed. i will go by circuit city or best buy today and check it out. thanks for the help

Very easy to do, just a note though sometimes alternator whine can be cured just by topping off the fluid in your battery or properly grounding your indash receiver.
