ABS & Traction control lights

1995 LHS

Sometimes (twice) when i start my car these 2 lights stay on. Why is this happening is there something that might need repair? I have had the car for a month and it appearently had new front pads put on to pass safety. Any advice on things i might need to check would be greatky appreciated. thanx.

if the light is staying on, it's telling you that there's a fault in the ABS/Traction control system. 90% of the time, it's a bad wheel speed sensor. If the car has had a brake job recently, there's a possibility the person who worked on it might have knicked the sensor or knicked one of the teeth on the tone ring(s).

I have recently experienced a similar discrepancy (see my latest post under LHS). Is there a way I can isolate the faulty part or connection? Would you think that a degreaser/wash could cause the discrepancy? Your feedback is appreciated, Thanks.

yes, there is a way that using a degreaser or washing the car could affect it if there were wires/connectors that were unplugged or open somehow. I'd suggest looking around the driver's side fenderwell, for you ABS pump, take the electrical connector apart and check for water and/or corrosion and clean it out thoroughly. There really isn't a way for you to isolate which sensor could be faulty unless you have a scan tool that can read real-time vehicle information while driving. To have that checked out, you might need to see either the dealer or an independent shop that can check that out for you.

Thanks a bunch! I first suspected water got into a connection, but was confused because the lights didn't illuminate untill after I drove the car about 8 hrs. Oh well, the good news is that my wife reported to me the other day that the lights have not been on. Which reinforces the suspicion of the moisture. I guess it dried out. At least I now know where the connection is for future reference. Thanks again.

Hey you boys....i have the same issue with those lamps, i recently send my LHS '96 with a mechanics shop in order to check/change the boots of the 4 joints(the inner and the outter), and they send me with that problem, rigth now I don´t have the time to see if they move something(maybe the sensor or the brake pads) or not ajusted the abs sensor correctly, actually I think that its some adjuts because at low speed these lamp don´t turn on, just on high speeds above 10miles, Regards!!!

i was wondering... i have an alero as well and when these lights come on is saing that a wheel bearing hub is bad and needs replacment... is it possible its the same here... the LHS has wheel hubs on it.. and my ligths are on.. but i also get alot of "jumping" or a hard wobble from the driver side... i know the tie rod end needs to be replaced... but is it possible the hub is bad as well?

my 95 lhs had those lights on. my mechanic put his scanner on my car and got nothing but gobolllokeekkkkk. ha said that itS no big deal, cars you owned in the past never had those options, right. i took the lights out mof the info center. i don"t like doing that, but cost lot's less than a trip to ythe ripoff dealership. if you can find out a better solution, please let me know.

This will sound stupid but on my 96 LHS I have the same problem and what I do when I have this problem is a check my tires if they are correctly inflated. I was told by mechanic that use to work for Chrysler that the computer for the ABS thinks that the car is always slipping and will stop trying correcting the slipping and turn on those two light to tell you the error.

And it works !!

Im not all that familiar with the speed sensors and abs sensors but my abs/traction control light was on and I had my machanic diagnosed/fix the problem and the first thing he tried was degreasing/cleaning the abs sensor which got rid of the lights for a month or so, but now im back to square one. What should i try replacing since cleaning everything hasnt worked?
