Hello,
My girlfriend has a 2000 Alero GL2 (4 banger). Has anyone towed anything with this setup? We are hoping to be able to tow a very small Uhaul trailer on a 2000 mi. trip. I don't think Olds recommends towing with the 4cyl (for obvious reasns), but Uhaul said they would install a class-2 (3500lb) hitch and it could tow a 4x6 trailer with no problems (700lb empty).
So what do you guys think??
Thanks :)

I would not recommend any towing. The engine will probably pull the load but your transmission and drivetrain are the weakest links on the Alero. It wasn't designed for towing even though a hitch can be installed.

I would agree with the last post. Even with the V6, you're only supposed to tow 1000lbs max for less than 1000mi I think. So, you figure that trailer filled with stuff might equal 900lbs, which is just under the limit for the V6. See where I'm going with this? I would save the money on the hitch/install and just rent a truck.

I would have to agree with everybody on this. you could heat up your transmission to much and cause premature wear on it.
