different engines

i have a 97 240sx black top and my friend has a 95 red top. can you tell me which is better? what kind of engine really fits for a 240, a Sr, a Rb, black top, red top, ect..

well lets see here both the red and black top sr's were basically made for the 240/silvia so they are a good fit as u call it the rb takes a lil work to fit but not to much trouble. as far as what is better a red top or a black top well thats different fron person to person black top has a lil bit more power but nothing major. and black top has vvt which some people like and other dont like so i say neither is better just personal preference i guess but all of the info u want should be in the FAQ so check it out

it really all depends on what you want. for the most part the blacktop will be a bit better because it is newer. less miles less problems.

debating on the rb vs sr. depends, rb nice platform lots of work. i drove one that my brother's shop swapped into a 93 hatch and honestly unless you plan on upgrading supsenion and all that good stuff the car felt like it unsteered a lot. rb being the motor that is has been know to make a lot of power. i mean it came out of the skyline. if you go rb go rb25, or rb26 with rb25 tranny. rb20 isn't bad, but for it's weight going into the 240 stock the power doesn't make up for it. but does make good power when upgraded.

sr easier to swap in, lighter and in my personal opion better for swapping into the 240 vs fabrication, cost, and time. much larger of aftermarket too.

now let's not forget the ka is a great motor as well. rebuild and add a turbo make pretty decent amount of power.

what about KAs? for me, im trying to drift and drag. so what would b the best engine?

either one as long as its built for driveability over top end

blacktop srs came in 2 versions: late model s13 180sx with 202 hp and a t25 and a s14 silvia with 217 hp and a t28

ive heard ka24 is better for drag and sr20 is better for drift but built right either can work for any style you want. if you have money and decide to go sr20 and drag it maybe check on TODA's stroker kit... :)
costs a penny but it will give you much benefits!

i want to see someone go non-turbo KA for either drift or drag. bored, fully built and ported head, high-compression, street/strip cams, ect.
it would be origional but im poor so someone else do it!!!!

You say you have a blacktop, but you still have the KA...the blacktop and redtop names only apply to the SR.

haha RB's rock. I put one in my '95. It pulls harder in 3rd thru 5th gear than 1st and 2nd though. So if you're going for drag you could either change the turbo to spool up super quick and have bottom end or turbo a KA. I heard they make great drag cars.

My opinion, KA-T is better than SR (more torque with ka) and go with the RB's...i am not a fan of the sr20's!

just go with the KAT....Options are endless...Apex has one over 600rwhp, Mike Lee of Intense and www.az240sx.org is over 560rwhp..And parts are easy to get

who cares if someone has a 600hp hat is that really practical come one how is that basis to get a hat their are 600 hp sr20's to so that must mean get the sr since their is a 600 hp sr. or get a rb since their are 1200 hp rb26's. s14240 you have to come up w/ a better reason then 600hp for why someone should go kat

ahh i didnt notice the second t on the rb good eye. and stop making up engines jdmtyte. im sure there are one or 2 sr20dett's out there and the same goes for the rb but as far as your jdmtyteness goes they dont really exist good try third try is a charm though maybe next time yuo will say a real engine try only one t next time
