Iīve been messing around with the idea of turning AMT`s Ford Galaxie `69 into a ProTourer.Nothing fancy building, just a stunning paintjob and a set of large wheels. Something that should not take longer than a week or two to build. Took some mock-up pics Saturday evening

Touch-up can silver applied over Tamiya primer. Upper half sprayed with Tamiya Candy Lime Green (TS 52).Looks quite nice at this stage,hm?

So today I thought it might be a good idea to put on a thin clearcoat, the sun shining an all :) So after a minute of shaky-shaky the can, i took aim and..

The cold hard reality smashed my eyes,my brain didn`t accept what`d just happened. :banghead: I had shook and sprayed one pass with what i thought was the Tamiya Clear. From the pictures you can see that this is definetly not clear. Itīs Tamiya Brilliant Blue (TS 44) :uhoh:

Well as i laid on the floor crying i made a mental "post-it note"; Read can-labels before you spray, even if you`re 101% sure you have the right can in hand.

So now i`ll have to wait a few days, then use som of the coarser polishingcloths and remove that darn Brilliant Blue. If i can`t save the Candy ,i just have to sand all down, then start over with silver :loser:

Oops. Don't the Tamiya cans have the color of the paint inside on the cap?....

Hey, could have been a worse mix-up, like that woman who thought she was grabbing eye drops but instead picked up superglue. I'm guessing that sucked worse.

After some :swear: and coffee, i started using the 3600 polishing cloth. It looks ( this far) as i can save the candy and just add more candycoat when all is fixed/sanded away. Same goes for the silver..

No Tamiya`s color is on a label at the side of the can,but the color is represented in/on ?? the plastic cover. Which i had put away..

Thank for the support Mike U. My wife doesn`t understand me in these situations. The wheels are from Pegasus Hobbies, don`t know what the model is called.

23" Phat Daddies. Nice project. I started one a while back but I lost interest in it...

Tonioseven, i can see why you lost interest, the kit is really an "annual" and therefore not so detailed and overall as kits from that era (simplified engine, lots of flash, interior bucket with front seats molded in place e.t.c.) But as a slammer or curbside, now we`re talking!

real dumb noob question, please help.

did you spray the whole car green or silver first?

how long did you wait to spray the second color?

what tape do you personally prefer to mask with, to spray the second color.

1. The whole model was sprayed Auto K Titanium silver. This is a fastdrying paint for fixing steelwheels. I did 2-3 passes, then left it in the sun on the balcony for dryingtime speed-up.
2. About 24 hours, but probably shorter. Iīm very anxious when it comes to painting ( my favorite part of the whole buildprocess) :)
3. a common regular 25-30mm wide maskingtape, who`s made it is something i`ve long forgotten :dunno:

awesome thanks for the quick reply.

your model looks great i love the pro touring look, i build awesome models, but honestly i cant paint for shiot. i have a paasche vl, badger crescendo, and badger anthem, and the worst part of my build is painting.

what ab do you use? or was that rattle can ( i doubt )

This messed-up paint is can( both silver and the candy) Tamiya spray is very nice; it doesnīt spray out so much as regular sprays and it goes on thin.
Actually, since my local hobbyshop started carrying Tamiya spray, iīve bought more and more of this label. I do on the other hand use airbrush from time to time, but only if itīs homeblended colors or only available in jars ( Testors and Humbrol). I like the control with an airbrush, what i DONīT like is the hassle of bring out the small kompressor, connect it all, testspray the airbrush, and not to mention the dreadfull cleaning of it !!

Oh man! Talk about a mistake. That sucks, but glad you can fix it. That is going to be a really hot model. I love the green/silver combo and the rims are awesome. I used to not keep the caps on my paint cans, but after this happening to me once, I changed that habit with a quickness!

Another good reason to spray a test shot off to the side. Thats my worst nightmare.

That really sucks. But then again you can practice your painting skills.
