Hey all, I've got a 1998 GMC Sierra 1500 V8 on my hands that just doesn't want to run. It stopped then wouldn't restart Saturday, which was traced to a burned-out in tank fuel pump. Pump replaced today, Sunday, and works fine. We now have fuel pressure, plenty of it, at both the pump, and the end of the fuel hose in the engine compartment. Seemingly though, there is no gas getting to the cylinders as the truck will start using starting fluid in the 'throttle body' yet not on its own. So, Help! Need to get it running to pick up kid from school, not to mention get to work on time. Thanks- :banghead:

Check cap and rotor for burned contact points.

Will do, but thinking about it, wouldn't it not fire on starting fluid too if that was the prob.?

Depends on the mileage. Starting fluid is much more volitile than gasoline, so I would be careful using it. Have you tried cranking the engine with the plugs removed to remove excess gas? Try cranking again with dry plugs, and pull one out to see if its wet. Something doesn't sound right here, you need to go back and troubleshoot some more.

I'll check the plugs, thanks. Ha, and I was hopin to troubleshoot on here, we all know that it's the drivers who know more about the vehicles, not so much the manuals.

Well, problem solved. Turns out that while the new fuel pump worked, it just didn't work hard enough. The auto zone-supplied pump didn't supply quite enough pressure and a gm part did the trick.
