Hi,
Im 18 i was goin down to huston from dallas, tx with my girlfriend to see her mom. I was crousing like 85 and i dont know what happend but i croused up to 97mph (cops speed) I got nailed. Now i dont know what to do. Should i plead guilty and see what happends but i would like to keep it off my insurance? or should i plead not guilty and see what happens in court? Im 18 and have never had a ticket before. And would really love to keep this off my insurance.

Your best bet is probably a lawyer...32 over the limit is wreckless driving in most states, and you're going to have a tough time keeping that off your insurance by yourself.

check out www.beatmyspeedingticket.com
It has some good advice, also has a $30 book, whether you want to pay for it and give it a try is up to you, but the free advice on the website is good advice. Also a lawyer is probably a good idea. I'd challenge it, to at least get it reduced...ie, not guilty.
Also check out the other threads in this section, as this happens rather often.

any judge is not going to be leniant to 32 over. Best bet is to get a lawyer. My bet is you will have your license suspended.

my god people....
if you know you were breaking the law/speed limit then at least take it like a man.
has it ever occured to you that it's people who break the law then whinge their way out it is what makes traffic cops harder against the rest of us?

plead guilty, you deserve it. 5 mph over the limit isn't so bad, 10 is alright if traffic is light, but people like you make me sick, you're needlessly endangering innocent people. Have you any idea how much longer it takes to stop when you're going nearly 100 than if you're going 65?
Stay off the road.

hold on there.....
just cos he was speeding doesn't mean he was dangerous.
don't do what the politicians do and equate the two together.
be sensible and use you brain; that's why god (or what ever deity you worship and that includes traffic lights....) gave us one.
my point is, despite what you may or may not think about speed limits, you know what the limits are.
if you do break that limit, i hope you are sensible about when it is safe and when it is not as well as know full well that it is illegal and if you get caught, you will be punished.

Drunken monkey is right. Please don't jump on another member's back simply for posting. We have all made mistakes and done some things that weren't the brightest choice...who cares. We learn from them. AF isn't here for you to belittle him, it is here for everyone to ask and answer...so as I'm sure you've heard before, "If you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all"

You'd feel different if someone doing nearly 100 rear-ended you.

In Indiana, we have a one time deferrment that can only be used once.
My kids have all used it for various traffic violations. Two used it for "speeding" and my son used it for "under age drinking" - he was NOT driving. Anyway, there is a fine - you plead guilty but ask for a deferrment and you MUST NOT have another offense up to one year or it is ALL revoked. It's worth looking into at that speed since it's your first offense. By the way, I also agree - speed depends upon the road conditions, traffic conditions and safety of course. We ALL mess up from time to time. Good luck!

if someone rear ended you doing 100 mph then something is very wrong if he is unable to slow down.
besides, that is the typical bullshit rational that anti-speed people spout all of the time.
the truth is, yes speed has the potential to make things more dangerous
but
on an empty dual carriageway at 3am with nothing to hit for 50 miles in front or behind you.
is 100 mph dangerous?
formula 1 cars go 100+ for 2 hours straight and you hardly ever see an accident.
rally drivers do the same over absolutely treacherous terrain and real accidents are incredibly rare.
speed isn't the real factor here; it's dangerous driving.
dangerous driving can be at 10mph.

I'm thinking that driving 100+ is dangerous wether there are any other cars around or not.... Think of how long it would take to stop...

Yes... and to whoever said something about professional racers... formula one cars are DESIGNED to go that fast, rally cars have rollcages and are also designed to be put through quite a bit of punishment.
Average Joe street car is not designed for that. I don't care what you say, oh German cars are for the Autobahn, etc., crash testing takes place at 45.
Suspensions probably couldn't take it either, unless you didn't ever need to turn or swerve to avoid something.
And stopping distance, yes. I take it you've never been in heavy traffic in the rain? Just slowing down quickly from 55 to 35 can take a LOT of room... that's just slowing down by 20mph. Imagine 100 to 0 on dry road then.
There are those who think because you have a car that can go 140 means why the hell not? There are those who are rational, and wouldn't do that ;) Thusly, I'm going to unsubscribe from this post, have a nice day.

christ almighty.....
do you really think that a car that can go 100mph has never been tested at those speeds?
granted formula 1 cars are perhaps a very extreme example but er... yes rally cars have roll cages.
that does prevent injuries when accidents do happen, but how often do they happen?
suspension can't handle high speeds?
you are aware that cars are actually over engineered for their purpose right?
you do know that crash testing is to test the possibe results of collisions and to asses its safety, right?
this doesn't have anything to do with the safety of the car at speed.
and once again, you are making the almighty auumpsion that if the faster car has to slow down, it is his fault because of the speed.
how about the the prick who enters a dual carriageway then takes forever to match the road speed?
that is called stupid driving.
if you have brake harshly to make a turn, that is called stupid driving.
not leaving enough space between you and the car in front is called stupid driving.
if you haven't figured that in wet weather, you need to leave more distance, then that is stupid driving.
(please tell me that you do actually leave more space in front when its wet...)
once again, speed doesn't have anything to do with it.
i once witnessed a car run into the back of the car in front and we were at crawling speed.
my car, parked, was hit by car right from behind.
it doesnt matter how fast that car was going, the point is, how could he actually fail to see and then proceed to hit a parked vehicle?
bingo! stupid driving.
the point here, is why would the car at speed have to slow down harshly?
if the speeding car has to brake harshly and suddenly and causes an accident, why is it automatically put down to speed, no questions asked?
if he wasn't driving stupidly, he'd be aware that he'd need to slow down for what he is about to do
eg. make a turn into a junction.
like i said, speed doesn't = dangerous driving.
should i remind you that most current speed limits are based on cars and their performance/attributes of 30 years ago?
that is before disc brakes were widely available, let alone abs and traction control and anti-spin and crumple zones and seatbelt pre-tensioners and airbags and lets not forget tyre technology's developments, especially for wet weather/all weather tyres.
and so you result making a mocking remark about me and my rationality, hiding behind a pretence of politeness, instead of openly debating.
says quite a lot really....

speed is dangerous in certain conditions but alot of relatives drive fast on the freeways. That doesn't mean its dangerous like my dad for example he might drive at 90,95 but he only does it when he has stopping distance in front of him. He doesn't drive stupid like weave thru traffic and cut people off.
My cousin on the other hand drives fast sometimes weaves but he can control his car really well. my parents and his parents bull that he can't drive but i trust his driving skills. my parents his parents took like 2 or 3 tries to pass thier driving tests but my cousin passed it the first time cause he can control the vehicle his driving which is the most importent thing the DMV looks for during you test.
I would rather drive with a 1000 people like my cousin on the road driving at 90 or 100 then some of the drivers i see on the local highways at 65. because if you can't drive it don't matter how fast your going.
