I got an 88 LX 5.0 that the Speedometer no longer works. I was told that the Speedo gear on Speedometer needs to be replaced. I was thinking that it might be the cable but not sure. How can I tell what needs to be replaced?

Sorry but I wanted to get as many people as I could to answer this question. Now I have another question. Could I use a gauge cluster off an 90-93 mustang? If i can't than why just so that I gain a little bit more knowledge.

yes you can but my question is....... is it the Speedometer itself that has a bad gear, or the other end at the transmission? Normally it's the transmission end of things that wears out, which is less than $10 for that part.

Well to tell you the truth I don't know. I just bought it and the owner told me that he had taken it in to see what was wrong with it and they told him that it was the gear on the Speedo gauge and not the one on the trans.
