I own a 92 I think it is a gs? but anyway the other night I took a turn little faster then normal then my oil light came on oil pressure droped, then the rest of the lights came on, car stopped. No spark, no cam shaft movement. Car cranks but wont turn over. I have done a search on here and it sounds like the oil pump is out, I just wanted to make sure. If it is the oil pump is that hard to replace, I have looked in my Chilton, doesnt look to hard but wanted to know from your experience.Any help is appreciated, Thanks!

I thought about not replying just because you only waited two hours before the inevitable "anyone" bump. But I'm in a decent mood today. :D Oil pumps do fail over time, but they dont just up and shit the bed. What do you mean by no camshaft movement? If the motor is off, it shouldnt be moving. If you are cranking it over and its not moving the oil pump is the least of your worries. A bad pump also wouldnt stop it from starting. An intake cam not turning the CAS however could ;) Need some clarification here. This is one of those situations where there are 50 possible causes, and you may have more than one. Nothing short of a full report will give us anything useful to go on. Does the cam turn when the motor is cranking. What tests have you tried. Compression? Spark? Etc. Start with things that could go to hell from turning hard or whatever you did that allegedly started this problem. Etc.

well thank you for your diligent response! so when the car stopped, I had a friend turn the ignition while I laid the spark plug wire next to a ground, also close to the plug itself about less then an half-inch from each stated point. no arc. then took off oil cap and had friend turn key again no movement of whatever you can see beneath the oil cap, rocker arms? but when car stopped the oil light came on first, then lost oil pressure, then the rest of the dash lights came on. car will crank but will not turn over. battery is fine. replaced plugs, wires and added two quarts of oil day before. took a 2 hour trip, fine. got off work then it collapsed about 500 feet from work after taking a turn. light was turning yellow already in third dropped it to second at about 3500 rpm's then the oil light and so on and so forth.

have you checked the timing belt? loss of oil pressure and then car dying? engine cranking over with no camshaft movement and not starting? i'm leaning towards a broken timing belt.

If it is the timing belt, then are these motors the kind that bend the valves and mess the engine up. Also would'nt I have heard some kind of mischief from the engine 'cause I did not.The replys are greatly appreciated.

Take off that cam cover to the right of the oil cap. I am willing to bet that your t-belt went to reinstate the fact.

yes these are intereference engines (the kind bend the valves and mess the engine up) if you have the dohc model. the 1.8 sohc arent though.

i think you would hear noise from the engine if the tbelt broke. but i think you would also hear noise just from it running with no oil pressure.

Well that is a freaking relief to hear that my motor is not the interfereance one, as it is the SOHC 1.8. Now I have just liiked at the cam cover and it seems alittle envolved to get off, but im in a rush to work. Plus at work I have my Chilton to study. Thanks again for the responses I will let you know of my progress.

Is their any special tools required in replacing the timing belt. Besides a socket set?
