Hondas...

Okay.. maybe this shouldn't be here. I just found this rather funny.

My younger sister (She's 14) Baby sits for this rather wealthy couple. The man Drove a Mercedes CL55, his wife drove a Lifted Suburban.

Apparently they just sold both their cars and he bought a Civic SI, she bought a Honda Odessy.

Must be something good about Hondas don't ya think?

(Btw, it's not that they couldn't afford the other cars, or the gas for them)

This is a true story.
So, I guess Honda must be doing something right if they can get a guy who drives a mercedes to sell it and buy one of their cars.

There are other factors to be considered...you haven't asked them the reason for the switch so it's still unknown.

Maybe they wanted to spend the extra money they saved on buying a Honda. Thats what my dad did, he sold his Audi for a Hyundai. Said because of the money he will save he can use it for better purposes.

Maybe they were tired of being materialistic? Or tired of haveing everyone envy them for what they drove, or bothered them because of their money status?

maybe they wanted less maintainance and more reliable, so when they are going to their uber-important meeting, they want something that is reliable and won't break down on them? Maybe an emergency like a sick relative forced them to sell the CL55 and use that money for more important purposes? WHo knows, it could be anything

Or maybe they are going to slap stickers and taillights on their hondas and go street racing!...maybe?....eh oh well...

How do you know it wasnt for gas? Gas is rising, and for the chevy i bet i cost them a monthly car note to put gas in it. Im not a honda hater but this is completely stupid to me. You said your sister baby-sits. Do you know how much of your miney is spend on kids a year alone? More than you spend on yourself. They maybe moving and need to sell their cars to get more money. Maybe they are getting ready for retirement after talking to a financal advisor. Hey maybe they want to rice? Maybe they seen fast and furious. Who cares? I bet if you do some searching youll find a lot of people who traded "down" for another car. Maybe they needed something more economy? Like you said they have kids. Maybe they want to buy a house. College funding? I could come up with a million of these.

I'm guessing it's definently the saving on gas thing. But a new Civic Si? He should have waited until their new one comes out at the end of this year, it's supposed to have 200hp. But the Odyssey is pretty expensive, $28-35,000. Personally I would have just bought an Evo 8 for the same price.

Evo 8 and Odessey are not in the same category. Evo 8 = fast, Odessey = people mover.

I know they're not in the same category, but for the same price I'd go for the performance.

Can't get Holdens in the states :( And that sucks. I've wanted one for so damn long now... Think I'll move to australia so I can get one.

Maybe they just got environmentally conscious; the Hondas get 44 and 28 mpg highway, while the Benz and Suburban are rated 21 and 18 (less for the Burban if lifted on big wheels). The new cars are probably less to insure also, and don't attract attention.

I know the $$ wasn't necessarily the issue, but maybe though they didn't necessarily have to save, they decided to do so.

Instead of wasting bandwidth pondering the myriad possibilities perhaps if someone were to simply ask them why they bought the hondas we'd all know once and for all..

I personally own a Honda Odyssey, and I have to say that it is one of the nices vehicles I've ever driven. The fact that it gets good gas mileage, has 260hp to play with, rides silent like a tomb inside, and is comfortably appointed make it every bit as nice as my dad's audi, my buddy's Mercedes CLK, or anything else out there. Also, take it from me, if you have kids, the odyssey has a huge draw: movies while you drive = quiet time for you. Try driving 1800 miles with two toddlers and you'll see what I mean!!

And for the civic... I see no problem with that. It's a solid car, always has been. These people made sound decisions in my mind. Obviously they didn't become wealthy by being stupid.

What does driving a Mercedes have to do with bieng materielistic? Maybe he was driving the Benz because he likes Benzes instead of driving it because it's an expensive car...

My Honda is the best thing that ever happened to me...I can relate to them....

I bought a honda because it is the nicest car that someone on a small fixed income can buy. Never have problems with em. Looking forward to finishing college so I can buy something unreliable lol.
