Clio DCi 80 Starting Problem again

Hi I have a problem with my clio DCi 80.
One day last month the Fault light came on on my clio, after a few checks with my meter I found a faulty glow plug, to be sure I had it checked by a friend with a fault code reader and he confirmed a fault with the pre heater circuit, he reset the ecu and I ordered a glow plug from Renault. After a few days the fault light came back on but I had not changed the plug yet. When the new glow plug came I disconnected the battery and fitted the new one. I decided to leave the battery disconnected over night to see if it would clear the fault code. After re connecting the battery I started the car, it was a bit rough for 20 seconds then it was fine, the fault light was still on so I guessed the codes are permanently stored in the ecu. on the next morning I had trouble starting the car again, it took around 15 seconds to start, when it did It ran very rough at around 200 rpm, it also would not accept any input from the throttle peddle, after 10 seconds the car sorted its self out and I was fine for the rest of the day. It has done this every morning since I disconnected the battery.
When I disconnected the battery overnight I assume the ecu lost all its self programmed data from the sensors, what I can’t understand is why it’s not storing new data again. Would the fault code in the ecu stop it storing date, or does it have like a safe mode and if there is a fault it runs on pre-programmed data? i did not have a problem starting until the battery was disconnected.
any help would be great
Ian

it does have a safe mode although if it was in this it would be noticeable all the time.disconnecting the battery may have reset the ecu but it will quickly re-learn itself.
if their is a fault light on it will stay on until the fault is fixed and code erased or until the car has been started 15 times without the same fault being detected,it will eventually be permenantly erased,so basically if you have changed the glow plug the light may still be on for a while but the fault should not be present.
in your case i'd say the fault is still present, whether or not it's the exact same one i can't say but it still sounds in the same area,i'd go and check all the wiring is secure then failing that get it scanned for fault codes again.
sorry i can't be of more help but being able to have a look it is quite hard to say for sure
