transmission problem?

I recently bought a 1992 rodeo. it has been sitting with the driver side window down for the past 4 months, so i have pulled the interior out, cleaned it and put it back in, changed the oil, put motor flush in it, then changed the oil again, added coolant, added transmission fluid, replaced PCV valve, new Air Filter, about to replace fuel filter, bled the brakes, degreased the engine, checked all plugs, wires, cap and rotor and all are good, it has a new starter, alternator, and battery, i am leaking oil from the valve cover gaskets, and somewhere else not sure yet havent pin pointed it yet, the main problem i am having now is.... i can put the car into REVERSE and move backwards just fine, but when i put it into DRIVE it moves a little bit then just sits there like my foot is on the brake, i move it to 3 and it does the same thing but it moves a little bit more, i put it into 2 and it will move a little bit more, but then when i put it into L it will take off like it is supposed to, im not sure what is wrong with it and im going to have a hard time trying to get it to a tranny shop like it is, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. BTW it just started doing this, we had drove it over here using the E-BRAKE to stop since the brakes were not working, the Check Engine Light flashes non-stop, the REAR ABS LIGHT stays on, and the CHECK TRANSMISSION LIGHT flashes also.

Man, I don't get it - why people treat vehicles like they're a dime a dozen.

Obviously the original owner let this puppy sit too long and allowed all fluids/problems to arise.

You're a good soul to bring out an ole faithful rig and put her back on the streets; it's a shame you're having this issue though.

At first I was thinking the gear range might be tweaked, with your "L" being your "D" gear. But after re-reading your post, I doubt it.

I've heard that a flashing CEL is not good, a steady CEL is not too bad. What I'd recommend, if possible, call a flat-bed, get this rig to an Isuzu Dealer and/or an "Import" mechanic.

Don't think it's just a tranny issue, personally. However, these Isuzu's are good at leading you to believe it's something major, when in fact, it turns out to be a pesky little stupid issue.

Keep us posted! And good luck!

it is weird though, like i said, it didnt do this the entire time i have had it, ever since i pulled the interior out, i aslo disconnected the cable going to the gear shift, and after i put the interior back in, reconnected the cable, and bled the brakes it did it, at first i thought it was the E-BRAKE but i disconnected it and it still did it, so in the process of doing all that i managed to do something that screwed it up, im hopeing that someone out there has had the same problem and knows a quick fix on it, i am tyring to avoid the high costs of the dealerships and shops, any ideas let me know im clueless

update on the car, found out i can actually drive in all gears (automatic transmission), it just takes about 2000 rpms to get it moving and it is real sluggish, anyone experienced this let me know what the problem was

Pull the rear wheels off and see if you can get the drums off. I have a feeling when you used the E-brake, the shoes got stuck and are not moving back to rest after you released the E-brake. Brakes are dragging. At 2000 RPM, your pretty much at the stall speed of the converter and there is enough torque multiplication going on to overpower the brakes. At least that is what it sounds like.

ahh just what i thought it was myself, the E-Brake, but no its not, i jacked it up, pulled the tires off, put it into drive, and they spun freely with no resistance, put the brake on and they stopped, let go and i could spin them again, did the same with the E-BRAKE and same results, and if this was so then it would do the same through all gears instead of only DRIVE, 3RD, 2ND, it moves perfectly fine through REVERSE and LOW, i took it to the shop a few days ago and had them check it out, it has spent about 5 days now in there and they havent gotten around to pulling the codes outta it to find out what is wrong with it, so they are going to do a regular service on it, change fluid filter and gaskets, and service the differential also and i am going to see what this is going to do to it, and hopefully it will fix it

just got it back from A+ Transmissions today, waste of time, they tried for about 5 days to pull the codes from the transmission and could not get them, they say there is a wiring problem somewhere to it so it wont allow them to retrieve the codes. but now the way it is driving (i havent ever driven it before when it was working properly so i dont know the shift points on it) i think that it is starting out in 2nd gear, but im not sure, im going to have to find a place that actually knows what they are doing not just bulls***in around, any ideas on it let me know

You might want to see if you can find an electrical automotive specialist in your area to have a look at it.

Or you may want to see if you can purchase part of the wireness that maybe bad.
