Does anyone know if these silverado's with the 4.8/5.3 will run ethanol. My buddy said someone he talked to said he read in his manual that it will. One of our gas stations is supplying it here now since gas is $2.25. And does anyone know of any problems it might cause instead of using gas.

ethanol is a good fuel. there are many upsides to running it and only one downside that I know of. Better due to burns cleaner, cheaper and helps the farmers to name a few. Downside is that some vehicals have problems vapor locking when the engine gets hot and it is hot outside. I have seen this in mostly fords for some reason but have seen it in a few GM's.

According to my owners manual you would need the 5.3 Bi-fuel motor the the Z code motor, 8th digit in the VIN Number. I know the 2005 i just got has this motor in it and from what i have found out is the GM put harder engine componets in the motor and the fuel system has sensors in it to detect the ethonal. Once detected the computer will adjust to burn the ethonal.

it may be cheeper but your going to need to more of it. check it out realy good befor you start using it. do a search on the net. your mpg will drop realy bad.
ran some thru my old truck, the pump was misslabled. got 1/2 range out of a tank. my mpg was 20 mpg after the e85 it was 10mpg. the only good thing about the trip was i packed the 5 gal jerry can. just in case. it came in handy a few times.

When I lived in Nebraska I used ethanol all the time and never had any problems or had any adverse effects. My parents used to also and the only had one problem after a 120 mile trip it vapor locked on them twice, the temp outside was 98 with 80 percent humidity. I wish ethanol was availible in texas as the price of gas is over $2 here.

check owners manual it will tell you the percentage alowable. 10-90 to 85-15 ethanol to gas, there is a sight on the net with a lot of info, i'm looking into changing over my 95 burban, dont care about milage, with a 42 gallon tank, what the hell even ten miles to the gallon when its free fuel. i'm going to make my own.

Thanks for the input. I cant find anything in the manual on it so I am assuming I shouldnt do it. Maybe I will call the dealership and ask the service dept. I have been hearing alot about the vapor lock issue. Sounds pretty common.
