I'm curious if anyone has tried an MSD ignition control box in their X? Ive seen them make quite a difference in modified (cam, carb etc) cars but have never known anyone to try one on a relatively stock vehichle like the X.

msd probably won't help much 4 wheelin'. i mean how hot of a spark do you need crawling over boulders? i think the stock ignition system is more than adequate for the average X owner. but then again maybe it isn't. we're not average dudes in this forum... :smoka: :smoker2: :bandit: :bonghitte :alien:

An MSD doesn't improve hp. It improves fuel burn. It will make a vehicle easier to start and allow for more efficient buring of fuel. When I get into engine phase with Project X I will install one due to the fact that I had one on a previous 4WD and loved what it did for the cold start ability and higher rpm operations (mud and sand).

I ran a Jacobs Omni-Pak Ignition module in my Pathfinder for years. It really did make a difference in the mid to high RPM range and like Warmonger pointed out the cold starting and idleling were much improved. HOWEVER! I cannot recommend the Jacobs kits for one reason: I replaced the thing twice! They charged me $70.00 the first time to "upgrade" to the latest version. When the second one failed exactly one year later they wanted $179.00! I found out that the original version had a known heat problem. When I brought this up with them they basically said "Tough!" I wrote a really professionally nasty letter to the president of the company and complained to the BBB. I never heard back from them and will tell everyone I know to stay away from their products :(
