We do this at home with Adobe something-or-other, but it is pretty expensive, and you will need some weird stuff for it, but I'm not sure.

Ok unless you have a digital camcorder with firewire you need a video card with a tvtuner or at least a video in. What kind of video card do you now?

I would recomend a All-in-Wonder card from ati anything from a rage 128 and up. Also Ati makes separate pci tuner crds that have video in. Another good brand for tv tuners is haupauge.

I recoment ati because they make the best consumer level video in cards/tv tuners and they have built in hardware Mpeg 2 encoding and the sofware is a very easy to use.

ALL in wonder is ok ! but it kinda sucks when it comes to graphics acceleration ! ( no offense but it makes alot of problems ! ) get a usual video in card ! if you have you should have video in plug like the one in the VCR in your computer's back ! :D
if you have it ! tell me and i'll let you know what to do next !

Hey I never said they were the best for gaming. But they are good enough. My radeon can play any game on the marker with excellent frame rates. I guess if you are the ultimate gamer obsesed to have the latest they are not the best cards. Altough the all-in-wonder radeonon 8500 is not by any means a slow 3D card more like it kikcks butt I mean is based on redon 8500 chipset.

Also you will be hard press to find cards with better all around functions than the all-in-wonders. A mean the do everything.

And as I told him he can buy a separate TV capture card if he wants. I recomended ATI bacuse on capture cards they are the best -for consumer level- beating the heck out of nvidia based capture cards.

i found a program that came on my computer called windows movie maker that says it can "capture digital and analog video" so that means ive already got the software right?

on the back of my computer next to the spot to plug in my microphone and speakers there is another little plug in, its not labeled only color-coded like everything else on a gateway. maybe thats the video in? ill have to get my manual out and see what it does.
