He's gone...

After 26 years as the Pope he has finally died. Although he's been dying for lie the past 5 years.

I couldn't belive ehe lived as long as he did though as soon as the media hopped on it. I almost though he was goin' to pull through for sometime longer till I turned on the tele this morn. It's really something else. Another great man has left us.

I think it was time for him to go, he'd been suffering for quite a while now.

I'm sure he's better off now...

He was very good for the Catholic church, quite progressive in his attitudes to encouraging the participation of youth in the Catholic church and improving relations with other Christian churches and the Jewish faith.

He also worked hard to undermine the Communist control of Eastern Europe (especially in Poland) in the 80's.

It was sad to see him decline. He had Parkinson's disease, a painful and disabling problem. IMHO the Vatican should have let him retire about 5 years ago, and given him some peace and relaxation in his final years.

If you said that in front of me right now I would have killed you, how can you insult such a person?

He didnt want to retire. He said he would be pope till the die he dies, it was that devotion that made people love him.

I consider myself a pretty tough person, and i've bin fighting tears all day. Today's the first day i've cried in over 5 years. The pope was imo the most important person in the entire world. He has done so much for the world and has touched so many people. I saw him in 2000 in Italy, just being near him made me feel like i was close to an angel or god himself.

Rest in peace Pope John Paul II... Son of Poland, Bishop of Rome, Hero of the ages

One question?

Would you want to be the Pope? Because I know I wouldn't

I am not Catholic, so I am having a hard time understanding why the pope is treated like God.

Sorry if you are offended, this is why holy wars have been such a big problem over the centuries.

I apologize for typing without thinking :banghead:

Because he is God's representative on Earth.

I'm not Catholic but I understand most religions, especially the big ones.

I wonder why they went ahead and ut in a feeding tude in the last hours. Guess they hoped it would helped, but they should have just gave him the meds to let him slip off nicely instead of surgery in the last day.

He was a good Pope though. Did a lot with the youth of the world. Remember the breakdancers???

He is the closest thing to God on earth... he isnt treated like a God, he's treated like a King because he's holy royalty.

Its not even about being catholic, did you see all the muslims and jews praying for him? He tried uniting all religions on earth so atleast they understood each other

He was a person who promoted peace not catholicism

maybe it just affects me more because he's from my country, and he was the first non-italian pope in over 400 years. He is like a father to all Polish people and the world

Sad to see him go, but did they really insert a feeding tube? Just let the poor man go, did they really expect him to live forever?

Side note: Gotti, fair enough, I understand it's sad to you since you're Polish, but seriously, drop the tough guy act. You're not fooling anyone.

Wow how nice and christian of you, im sure the pope would have been thrilled to hear that come out of your mouth.

I'm not exactly a devoted christian.... i go to church every sunday, and i consider myself more religous than the average north american person. But i'm young, i have a bad temper, and mainly i hope going to church will help me get forgivness for all the sins i commit. When you grow up around alot of poor immigrants, you tend to get into fights alot so when somebody insults somebody you respect you stand up for them.

honest to god if somebody said anything insulting about the pope around me today i would have beat them to the ground.... no tough guy act i'm just being honest. i dont think if its right or wrong i just react badly to situations like that

Damien

^Tis true. i've done it and it wasnt about anyone I knew, but disrespect is bad especially when ur around someone who did know the person. (oh, in my case the person died and someone said something around the person's sister)

Although, just to give ya a quick heads up, frogiveness of sins is not by just attending church.

even if it isn't an act it can still come across as annoying. :2cents:

Wow, way to completely miss the point. The idea is that you don't just get a "get out of jail free" card, but that you don't commit the so-called sins in the first place. Christianity is about a change in lifestyle, not a free pass to live how you want.

When you grow up around alot of poor immigrants, you tend to get into fights alot so when somebody insults somebody you respect you stand up for them.

Would you PLEASE stop blaming stuff you do on the damn immigrants? I don't know how many times I've read posts of yours in which you blame things on your upbringing, the bad neighborhoods, and the poor immigrants, but the number is probably approaching the thousands. Would you please just take some responsibility for your own actions? Is that really too much to ask? What you do is no one's fault but your own.

honest to god if somebody said anything insulting about the pope around me today i would have beat them to the ground.... no tough guy act i'm just being honest

Again, I don't think the pope would appreciate that...

He was the third longest serving Pope. I remember when he was elected back in 1978. His election came after the last Pope died after only a month in the position. He did a lot in his 26 1/2 year tenure, and i believe he was the most traveled Pope to this day. He left an awfully big pair of shoes for the next Pope to fill, and to carry on his work around the world.

As bad as it sucks, at least it was his time and it wasn't prolonged. It was the pope's time to go and he's better off now. Hopefully the next pope can do as much good as JP2.

And Gotti is right..Poland kicks ass!!!!

I was expecting someone to start a thread about this.

Someone said to me today "OMG the pope is dead!" and I Was like "no, really? Gee, I thought you were born old.".

Still, it's sad in a way, but at the same time a relief. At least he's not in pain.

OMG... you're trying to tell me. Obvious-fuckin-ly... but its better if i goto church than not go at all. And like i said, i'm young... when i get older and stop commiting so many sins, i'll be closer to god, and then i'll truely want to repent, and seek forgiveness for all the stupid shit i'm doing now. Why do you think alot of mafiosos go to church? Because its better than not goin at all.

Dont try to teach me about religion... how many times a week do you pray or go to church?

And i'm sick of you rich kids acting like you know everything STFU

You grew up in the suburbs living the life, your parents bought you everything you wanted, you have no fucking clue how it is to come to america as a refugee with NO MONEY, with NO KNOWLEDGE of the english language and trying to make it. After having your family only make $150 a fucking month in a communist country and trying to live on it.

Dont try to school me, you have no right to do that.. you have no Fing clue what i've bin through. You should know with all your private school knowledge that you're a product of your surroundings. If everybody around you is rich, you're not going to be commiting crimes, if everybody around you is going to college, so are you. Now for me, when everybody around you is fucking poor, and your parents cant afford to buy you shit, you have to hustle to get all the things rich parents buy for their kids. You wanted a new pair of Nikes, you asked your parents, if i wanted a new pair of Nikes at 14 i had to make that money some how. And when all the other kids in your neighborhood are turning to crimes to make money, and you can do it too, thats what you do.

And you just made me write this for nothing, i wasnt blaming anything on being an immigrant, all i said is in my neighborhood we got into alot of fights when we were young, so i dont take insults to people i respect with out standing up for them. So what, I cant say that when i was growing up i got into alot of fights because of where i lived?! Get the hell outta here

Dont try schooling me on life... cause i've been through things you cant comprehend

I'm sorry man, but I have to agree with ec437 here, your missing the point of going to church completely, you get forgiveness for your sins, but the idea is to not go out and keep doing the same shit over and over again, expecting to get forgiven every time. Eventually it will bite you in the ass bro, and it's gonna hurt.

Dont try to teach me about religion... how many times a week do you pray or go to church?

Don't treat church like a video game. you don't get 'Jesus' points every time you pray or go to church. If you the religious person you claim to be, praying and stuff should be a habit, not a point of comparison.

what tough guy act? i write what i think, i dont care how people judge me

Anyways, back on topic...
It's sad to see the Pope go, he was a great man, hopefully will be remembered for this, not for how much of a media stir his illness caused.

It has nothing to do with "jesus points" what the hell are you talking about? The whole point of what i said is, that i prolly know alot more about religion than him so dont try schooling me on it.

:2cents:

Why would you even bring this up? I wasnt even pissed at that, if you would of read my post you would of realized that i'm pissed that he said i blame everything on being an immigrant. I never blame shit on being an immigrant, all i say is what happened to me, so people understand where i'm coming from.

You are just as guilty as he is. Telling someone to STFU is not okay on AF.

It's bad that a topic like this went to crap, with slander against other people. So how about you all cool it, and start another thread, to discuss a good persons life achievments, and keep it clean this time.
