Clicking Sound

I have a 1993 YJ, Inline 6, Fuel Injected, 5 speed, 85k miles. I hear a ticking sound or clicking sound coming from Timing chain cover. Opened it up, found the deflection out of spec (1/2" deflection) there is a peice inside that was worn abit, not sure what its called. Its removable. I think it protects the timing chain cover from a loose chain. Like what I had. Got the parts, installed a new cam/crank shaft sprockets and chain. Lined up my dots, slipped it in. Put everything back on. Refilled coolant in rad, and added oil just to make sure it was lubricated well. When I installed the new chain, I emursed it in oil. Looking back, the chain might go on a specific way. But I looked at my old one, and I cant see that being an issue. Next steps for me, I will try to pin point exactly where the noise is coming from. Recheck my new chains deflection.
I still have the same noise as before, but it just lessend abit. Sounds like it originally did, before it started to get worse and I parked it.
I hope you guys n gals can help me. Take care and have a good-day. :)

The sound is always on. When not moving it ticks/clicks (when idling), increase RPM increases sound and frequency. Guess I invest in a automotive stethascope. I just hope its not the bottom end. Was thinking perhaps that area aint getting no oil, perhaps a new oil pump. I have no clue at this point. Also thinking about getting some playdo and putting some on that timing chain protector peice. If its still hitting that, I would know. I was also thinking taking the radiator (rad) off, taking belt off, alternator off, harmonic balancer off, timing chain cover off. And have buddy start it up, to visually check. I can't have it run for too long. This would be risky, but if I reinstall cam/crank bolts those gears (sprockets) couldnt slip off and I would be in worse shape. After that I could do the puddy thing to see if its hitting.
Other then that I have no idea's here.
I need all the help I can get. Its a great site, surfed the longest time here. Getting some great ideas for my rig.
Have a great wonderful day.

Tough call for sure. The stethoscope is a good idea, need to pinpoint the noise. It's not a valve or lifter noise is it?

No upper noises, all coming from bottom end.
Someone told me to check out the Harmonic Balancer itself. Could be the culprit.

Could it be a loose bolt in something, or the bearings in an accessory? I imagine you've checked the power steering pump....

Its all bottom end. Everyone tells me that. I found out what it was, and it makes me look like a fool for not even looking there. But a friend of mine who cruises in that Pontiac GTO (whatta feeling cruising in that) mentioned to check the pan. So I did, just over the front axle, a very large dent causing the crankshaft and its components connecting to it, to hit the pan. Causing a ticking or clicking sound that changes with RPM. I will change it out, do a lube oil, filter. Put in a skid plate to protect that large pan. Alot of stuff to get out of the way just to do a pan job. But a hundred a fifty bones later, I can cruise the strip without feeling ashamed of my ride.
Its a great site this is, I have it book-marked for all my vehicle repair and question needs.
Take care and thanks for all your help. Keep it real, and keep smiling. No need for Doctor Bob and B.W. *winks* I got my serenity back. Have a great day.

Wow...glad you found it. It could have eventually loosened the whole pan, broke the seal or knocked a hole in the pan and left you stranded.
