Exhaust Manifold Cover

I just got done loking at some pics of the engine before I got the car....it was very..very..very clean.. First thing I noticed was that the armor all or polish or whatever as on the radiator tube..was still on there. Everytime I try to clean it up, the stuff just gets burned off of there....WHY DOES MINE BULDGE AND GET SO HOT?!?! Even if I had a different pipe...the pressure against the clamps would be the same...if not more ....
Another thing I noticed was that the exhaust manifold cover was clean...no rust/burn marks.. Mines all brown now...Why did it JUST now start changing when I got it...what the hell is wrong with my eclipse...
And when I drive, the "lifter tick" continues to tick.....wouldn't that be crankwalk? I thought the lifter tick was only at idle and RIGHT when you started driving.....??

1) The rubber tube that connects from the thermostat housing to the top of your radiator holds coolant. Coolant gets hot because of heat transfer between it and the motor, so it is normal for it to bulge and get hot.
2) Your heat shield over the exhaust mani might have been painted, and the paint might be wearing off...or it might just be getting rusty with time. It doesn't matter, just sand it with sandpaper or steel wool and it will become shinier again.
3) Lifter tick happens all the time. Mine sometimes stops when I get higher oil pressure going to the motor, but it's a constant, RPM related tick. You'll know it when you get crankwalk; and if you don't know it, you'll just have peace of mind until your car dies instead of being scared to death for months before your car finally dies :p
