caprice rear end info

what caprices do I have to find to get posi, rear disk brakes, and lower gears, I would like to know if I can get a 8.5 10 bolt also. Imalla ss spings, how much would they lower a 79 caprice? what would be a fair price for a rear axel?

Well to find one with disc brakes, limited slip and lower gears you are going to need to look for a 94-96 L99 powered car. They will have the lowest gears of any b-body with rear discs, 3.23s. Any 10-bolt from a 9C1 wil be an 8.5", Also I think all of the 91-96 cars are 8.5"s as well.

ImpSS springs should be good for a 1-2 inche drop depending upon the condition of your original springs.

According to www.9c1.com, the 94-96 LT1 had lowest rear end gearing with 3.08 ratio compared to the L99 3.23 ratio.

That's right. 3.23 are considered lower gears than 3.08s. And they were only available with the L99.

The LT1 car gears are considered "higher", even though they are numerically lower.

Well, doesn't that make sense. Oh well.

I know it doesn't. But when people talk about having lower gears vs higher gears they are talking in reverse of what logic would tell you.

I guess thing about it this way. 1st gear in a transmission is called.... low gear. 4th gear is called... high gear. Yet the numerical difference exist there also. Low is going to be much larger numerically vs high gear which is going to be 1 or less...
