GTP vs. 5.0 Stang

So I was with my buddy earlier in his green 2001 pontiac grand prix gtp, and we got up to a secluded stoplight with not much traffic around, and this fox body mustang 5 liter pulls up next to us in the right lane. i told my friend that i knew this guys car (1991 LX), and that he would get his butt kicked by the stang. but he decides to go anyway. he puts it in neutral and revvs up his engine @ the mustang. the stang returns the favor and looks over with a big fat "i'm gonna eat you alive" grin. The light turns green and we take off, jumping ahead of the stang, cuz the gtp has excellent traction of the line and the 5.0 is just spinning tires at the light. at about 50-55 mph, the mustang casually pulls up beside us, and then put the hammer down. i told my buddy to floor it, and he said he already was. i thought he was just waiting for the stang to catch up, but this mustang was really fast. We pulled over with the kid, and he told us thank you for the opportunity to test out his new Vortech supercharger. i knew he was fast cuz i'd tried to race him before, but he said he thinks he can run mid 13's with his new SC. It was fun, but my friend went home feeling way less like a man, i can tell you that much.

Yeah, it was hilarious! that stang was wicked. Hey, did you see the thread bout the stang getting beat by a metro? what is that all about?

That 5.0 could easily run 13s. Actually, probably more like 12s with a vortech. My friend has a Vortech 5.0 and it ran a 11.90 last summer. But then of course, he blew a valve into cylinder and toasted that engine. :nono:

Hehe, that reminds me of my old 90 Civic base model with a whopping 62 horsepower. You literally had to floor that SOB to do any kind of acceleration whatsoever.

I think I could do a better 1/4 mile on a mountain bike than in that Civic. :P

I wouldn't think the GTP would get great traction with FWD and a lot of torque, but nice try anyway. Those GTP's do work good. Oh, and mid 13's for a 5.0L with a Vortech...my dads' 5.0L with bolt-ons does LOW 14's and will hit high 13's with the gears installed. I think your buddy can do better than 13's. Again, good run, nice try, it's good to have some fun even when you know you're going to lose.

GTPs actually get very good launches on street tires. A 2.1 60' on street tires is common.

people would think that, but GTP's are very good at launching. Its not uncommon for GTP's to pull 1.9-2.0 60' times.

Never knew they got that good of 60' times, Ive floored it in my sister GTP(no she doesn't know how I drive it) and I got sooooo much whealspin id think they suck at getting good launches.
