Does the rattling sound like marbles in a coffee can, or like lifters, etc? Do you hear the noise the entire time you're accelerating, or just initially after hitting the throttle?

If like marbles in a coffee can, you may have a catalytic converter heat shield with a broken weld. I don't believe this is as common a problem as it was in the mid-late 80s, but could still be your noise. If it's really from the engine compartment, it could be shields on the exhaust manifolds or the pre-cats.

the sound is more like lifters...and it happens during intitial acceleration and after each time it shifts it will make the noise again, going up hills at lower speeds is where i hear it the best, but during one constant speed the noise isnt there

I believe this problem is connected to your other post. If the engine is running lean, you will have spark knock(rattle) on acceleration. Determine the cause of the P0174 and you will cure all the problems. I posted from Ford manual on the P0174. in other post. :nono:
