what's shakin???

Why does my 96 K1500 Burban shake so much when I step on the brakes? Usually when I'm going down hill. If I have anything in the cup holder it just about flies out. Any guesses??

Replace brakedisk and drums, pads and brakeshoes, and inspect oil seals on rear axel for leake!

Much brakedust in the rear drums can also make this happen

Best bet is probably on front rotors. If they're warped, it can cause a vibration. You may be able to turn them and solve the problem. Usually I end up replacing them, though. Big heavy vehicle = Hard on brakes.

I would definately replace the rotors. If they are as bad as you describe, they may have to be turned past specs before they are true. Even if they could be turned true AND within specs, enough heat to warp them will often crack them. Also, larger vehicles create more heat when stopping, and thinner metal means they'll overheat quicker than with new rotors (usually only a concern when towing trailers or driving down long hills).
