this is probably a stupid question but what is an air dam? and whats it do?

i guess it controls the amount of air, and contents of air through an intake system, that is if it relates at all to water dams

well i think it would be used to block air. a water dam is setup to block water, so i would think that an air dam would be setup to block air

its a lip that goes on your front bumper. Its often seen on older camero's, and mustangs. Its for down force. Here a Pic I found. The black part is the air dam. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y20/CrazyUglyCoyote/airdam.bmp

air dams were put on cars to not only recieve extra downforce, but to have some holes so hoses can be connected to it that lead to the brakes to cool them.
