Brake Pads Completely Gone

It's a GSX, so obviously I have 4 wheel disk brakes. Here's the thing....every bad is completely worn down... I can feel the metal to metal contact when braking even at 1MPH....I bought brake pads for like 24 bucks at autozone....hoping that a friend would be able to put them on, but he is always busy.

SO assuming it wouldn't be too expensive.. i went to midas....the quote was $320...I just stared at the guy and walked out...cause that's rediculous.

SOOOOO I decided I am goign to try to figure it out myself on the 24 dollar budget.... Well I got my jack out and took the tire off....but I don't know how to do it lol... I'm going nuts because I leave for Atlanta/Panama City on tuesday...and I will need brakes sometime on the road trip.

Could someone tell me how to do it or post some pics of what to undo...or send me a link?? I can't find any..please help me out~! Thanks

You said it was disc it's really not hard. Take off the wheel (after jacking the car up). Then (assumeing you know what the calipur looks like) take the screw out that holds the caliper on. It's easiest with a ratchet set. The caliper should wiggle off. You will see the pads on both side on the inside (note there will still be a brake line attached) pop out the existing pad. Where they sit there will be a piston under neath. You need to compress this back somehow to it's fully in position. What I do is with old pad against the piston is take a c clamp and slowly go down on it. Careful though for some reason I remember someone saying the piston is threaded (not sure if thats true).. Once it compress's spray up the back's of the new pads with anti squeel if you have it. It can be purchased at autozone, it's blue sticky stuff usually. Pop in the new pads and fit the calipur back over the rotors. Replace the wheel.

This will work for the front 2. I've never done disc on rear. I assume the e brake is a bit different. You will have to get someone else to help you with that one.

I tried to describe it the best I could. It's hard without pictures. Make sure you test them before you drive then! Roll slowly from a stop and try the brakes. They may not work the first time until the lines become presurized (you just forced the fluid back up in them). Just pump them until they do. Once thats done try a little faster and stopping. I take it around the block usually doing this and then out on the main drag (40mph). Once you do it once you will be thankful. While your at it if the rotors are shot and you can afford to replace them at the same time. It's alot easier then having to pull the wheels a few weeks later. They just slide off and new ones slide on.

You people are kickass.. Yea I took off the rear right wheel today, not the front yet..no time..BUT it looked exactly how you described it..I did it earlier and i just now read it but yes.it's the same.. I know what bolts you were talking about. I couldn't get the nut to come off though because it was too tight...and I don't have a rachet that would fit it so I had to use a wrench...I even tried using a hammer to knock it loose...didn't work...so i just put the wheel back on.... I don' get why garages charge so damn much to do something that easy...it really pisses me off. Luckily, today I met a dude that owns a custom racing shop in Grand Rapids MI...35 minutes away...said he can get me anything I want for about a quarter of the price anywhere else....

cool glad it worked out for you. Yeah it took me a socket on the back and a small mallet to break it free I believe.
