I can't get in to start, it acts like it really wants too but just dosn't get going. Could just having the header and no exaust hooked up cause this since there is hardly any back pressure? it's getting fuel too cause i can smell it for one, and just to make sure it wasn't flooded out, i disconnected the fule pump until it stoped trying to fire and the gas gauge read nada, then hooked it back up let it prime and tried again and again. My dizzy isn't getting hot anymore so the advice i got fixed that and got me my spark, but i just can't get er goin, shen want too really bad though cause i can just feel how much more power is in this motor just by cranking it over compared to the old hf motor. Anyone know whats up w/ this, has anyone ran a honda motor w/ just a header on it or will it not start. Thanks Scott.

maybe your timings off, or the ignition timing is off, check both those

ignition timing? whats the difference between timing and ingition timing and how do i check that?

ignition timing would be how far retarded or advanced the distributor is (according to me anyways, some people may call that something different)
also, check the firing order as well, might have the wires mixed up, and make sure the dizzys not 180 degrees out

i havn't taken the dizzy out so it shouldn't be off should it, if i am standing on the passanger side, is turning it to the right advancing the timing or retarding it? This motor probably hasn't run in a very long time, maybe 5 or 6 yrs cause it came out of a 93 car in japan, so could it be that it just need to be fired and open up or what. I was hoping that thing would fire right up once i got my spark.

what fixed your spark problem ? do a compression test. run a timing light and make sure your timing is on. turning your dist to the left will advance it.

i had to swap the 2 white wires on my harness to the dizzy one white wire goes to a green/yellow wire and the other goes to a white wire so i swaped them around like someone told me i can't remember who but it's in the post "got no spark" It may have been you i'm not sure but it was someone w/ civic in the name, i'll go back and check.

retarding is turning it to the right (towards the front of the car)
well i have a couple ideas that you can try, first try some quick start and see if it runs for a few seconds or try using a propane bottle in the intake to try and get it to start,
make sure all injectors are firing
try holding the gas down to the floor for a bit (will shut off injectors untill the engines cleared and will usually fire afterwards)
hold the gas down a bit to get more air in
but make sure you have all the plug wires in the correct spots though. thats a big one

now that i think about it, i sprayed some starter fluid into the butterfly and there was one time it shot fire out the intake but it only did it once, the rest of the time it's sounds like it is coming out the exaust though, and i had the butterfly open when it happened. I guess it had a hiccup.

i am going to go and fool around w/ the dizzy for a bit and see if i get anything, i'll be back in a few to let ya know what i find out.

if it shot a flame out the intake then it sounds like the firing order is off to me. i had mine off one time by accident and i could hear it popping inside my short ram intake. sounded kinda cool tho hehe

i turned the dizzy towards the front of the car and it seemed to want to fire a little bit better but not much better, the plug wires are in the same place they were when i got the motor and also in the same order as my old motor so i am pretty sure they are all in the right place. Here are some pics of the plug wires, i don't know if you can tell much though. My dad is coming to town tomorrow so i'll get him to bring his timing light. Can the timing still be 180 degrees out if the marks on the crank pulley line up when the cam gear mark lines up too?

get all your timing marks lined up then pull off the distributor cap and see where the rotor is pointing. if its pointing to a 11 or 12 o'clock position (top left corner) thats good, if its pointing to a 5 or 6 o'clock position(bottom right corner), that means the distributor timing is 180 degrees out.

Yea i have been doin some looking into it and starting to understand that ignition timing, my dad is coming in tomorrow and really understands 4 stroke engines better than i do, i am a wiring goo roo so i can read diagrams and stuff and have a basic knowledge of engines but he knows better than me. Rather do it right the first time.
