1999 Lumina Power windows

Problem just started. Press the driver window and it goes down fine. I can press to return to closed position but it won't work. If I keep messing with it it will finally go up. My guess is a switch but my old Astro had a similar problem with the motor. It does have the "express" switch. The other windows work fine.

How can I test the switch on one of these things? I have a multi meter? I don't recall the Haynes manual having anything but I haven't specifically looked for it either.

Ever try just waiting for a few minutes and see if it works? Or does it only happen when you try to put the window back up right away?

I just wondered, because if the switch hangs, the next thing that would happen is the circuit breaker would cut out due to the load of trying to lower a bottomed out window. Then it wouldn't work for a period of time until it reset. If that's what's happening, it's a good bet it's the switch. If not, could be another problem, like a dead spot in the lift motor. Mine sometimes won't move, I hold the button while shutting the door, and it springs to life. I think I've got a bad motor(same as hitting a starter or wiper motor when they go bad)

I don't really know how to test it, but if you could pull the switch out of the armrest, and probe the contacts to see which is power when lowering, and see if it cuts off when the window stops, that should tell you what you want to know.

I had same problem on my car. I took the switch out, and actaully just cleaned the contacts on the switch, and it worked. (the contacts were just dirty) havent had any problems again.
