When I am in 1st gear and in the 1000-3000rpm range while driving the car makes a grindin noise. What could this be because its on and off? I have a 2002 cavalier, 2.4L manual. I know how to drive stick and i dont screw around with shifting.

Could be a linkage or worn gear. Could also being a rotor, caliper or CV joint. You really have to jack the front end up and running it and pinpoint were its coming from. Good Luck

I would get on that real quick before you do any more damage as well. I knew someone who had a similar noise and it turned out that they had bent the axle and needed a new rotor. ( i dont know if the rotor bent the axle of if the axle broke the rotor but...). I'd check it out, and if you dont see anything take it to a mechanic to save yourself some $ in the longrun.
