The Sebring Vs. Celica GT.

Now this wasn't a typical race. It happened on the freeway and it was more of a race that would be decided by lane choice.

I was on the way home from work tonight when a girl, a cute one at that, in a Celica GT is riding my ass down I-215. I don't know where she came from as my ass was clear just seconds earlier. She stays there until the exit to merge onto I-15. She gets an opening and takes the outside lane trying to pass me. I floor it as we go around the turn and she lets off. There wasn't any traffic to stop her; she must have not had enough confidence to take the turn any faster.

Anyhow, I floored it around the turn and up the ramp. We hit traffic and she gets stuck while my lane keeps passing people as we merge onto I-15. I get on and make way to the lane that seems to be moving the fastest. She keeps trying different lanes and does the classic floor it when there is room and brake hard when you reach the person ahead. I changed lanes only when one suited me better. She kept making poor lane choices and fell behind.

I thought I had lost her when I found her coming up in the carpool lane. However, she had to dive back in behind me because of the cop I was following. We pass 106th South and the cop exited and traffic becomes much lighter. So now she decides to finish it and go around me. It is clear ahead of both of us so a drag race it is. As soon as she changes lanes I drop it out of over drive and floor it. Once it got close to redline I dump it back into overdrive. I couldn't believe it but I was walking on her. I don't know if she was really at WOT or not but I sure could hear her engine and I saw her nose lift when she changed lanes so I assume she was at WOT.

If so I guess she much have been burdened with an automatic as well. Actually, now that I look at it, she only has 140HP and 125 ft/lbs of torque while I have 163HP and 170 ft/lbs of torque. Well, that explains it.

Anyhow, chalk up another kill for the Sebring.

What generation celica? I love how the mid-late 90's ones look. Too bad the GT4 never made it here.

Been awhile since you've had a race now hasn't it Poly? Or you just don't post very much of them. I'll be out tomorrow night around 10 pm. I'd like to take a stab at your GTC. Seeing that I installed some new goodies in the Civic :naughty:. Well, good kill. Automatics are no fun. though. I drove our Jeep today (auto), and I seriously wanted to shift like I was driving a manual. But then I remembered I was in an auto :disappoin . L8...

Hehe, yeah the Sebring gets a kill once in a while. I have yet to lose in it. Then again, it isn't like I've had a lot of races in it, so far three.

I'm not familiar with how many generations of Celicas there are but it was the latest. I know what you mean though; I would love to own a turbo Celica All-Trac.

Yeah, I haven't had one since that Prelude in Draper, also in the Sebring. I am surprised though since my job has moved to West Valley City I've noticed you can't drive down the street without running into at least four or five poorly modded cars. It is like biting into a Chips Ahoy. However, I have yet to race one of them. I would love to take the GTC to work one of these days and try to get some action. Besides, there is a girl that works there that I want to hand a slice of humble pie to. Anyhow, a different story for a different time. I would love to take the GTC out and race this weekend but I need to put a battery in, change the plugs and wires, fill her up with some good fuel and clean the injectors. Then I need to have the alternator checked. So I hope I get around to doing all of that this weekend plus find that damn vacuum leak. The other problem is that the GTC isn't insured right now either.

So I guess we'll see how it goes.

Nice Kill!!

Auto Celica GT's run mid 16's. The auto GT-S runs high 16's-low 17's.

Yeah, had she been driving a GT-S it would have been over pretty quick I think.

Sebrings are great cars, not fast or nimble but comfortable, had one as a rental for a couple of months while I was in LA, must have thrashed it to within an inch of its life and it never let up.
Its nice to hear of one getting a kill, even if it is against the mighty Celica.

Actually you'd be suprised at how well the Mitsu versions of the Sebring LXi handle.

Very nice Celica BTW. :smokin:
