Cracking the Radio Security Code????

Once the battery has been removed from a 2000 Mitsu Eclipse the radio needs a code to be entered in order for the radio to work.
I bought the car used and dont have the code.
I dont have the "first cd" that was ever played in it either.

Does any one know how to get the code that will make my radio work?
Is it in the car somewhere?

I cant see bringing it to the dealer and shelling out $120.
If I cant get the code I'll buy a new system.

all you have to do is get the serial number off of your radio by taking off the big dash cover that surrounds the radio and climate controls. It is held on by two phillips head screws down on either side of the cubby hole. It is also held on by two clips up top. When you take it off dont forget to unclip your hazard switch. Get the serial number and take to your dealer and they can look it up. My dealer did it for free since I already had the serial number. The only thing they did was not show me the code until one of their guys put it in to make sure it worked.

im just wondering...why do we want newbies to search before posting? we give them the answers anyway so why would they search. the reason i didnt answer is b/c the question has been asked numerous times. i found like 9 posts on how to get the code with a simple search

Too bad there isnt a way to make newb's be on a probation period when they first sign up.

so the serial number on the radio commands the code and not the ECU, i bought a 6 cd disc changer used, would that affect it or which number should i go for??

each headunit has a specific code. the code corresponds with the serial number on the headunit. i dont think it really does anything with the ECU.

oh cool thanks for clarifying, my mechanic pulled out the battery when we were trying to get to that rear motor mount, so i was thinking crap, i don't know the code

strangely enough, there was no need, the radio needed no code even though there was no battery signal whatsoever overnight
