Stalls, P0336, tach stops working

Have a 2001 superchared grand prix. 3.8 L
I have taken it to several dealers and they can't seem to fix it.
It throws a code P0336 which is crankshaft positon sensor.
They swear that the sensor is fine, and thought it was the computer.
The computer has just been replaced to try to solve this problem.
The sympotoms are that it stalls at highway speeds, and sometimes the tachometer stops working. Charging system is good, just had a new battery installed.
Any ideas?

OK, I'm going to be the dumby today. The computer says it's the crankshaft positon sensor. The dealer says it's the computer. You change the computer and still have the same trouble? Why hasn't the crankshaft positon sensor been changed?

I agree. Too bad you don't get two cents each time for all the good advice you give Kid54....lol. Generic P0336 is CPS A CKT Range/Performance meaning out of specifications electrically. It is not totally out because the car wouldn't start otherwise. Plus check out the electrical connector/plug going to the CPS for contamination/corrosion, etc.

Does the tach use the spark off the module, or does it use the CPS to determine the engine RPM's?

Here is the basic theory of operation:
The pulses sent from a crank or cam sensor generally are sent directly to an ignition module which transmits data to the ecm(computer). These pulses are generally a digital square wave pattern and can be easily read by most tachometers. A cam or crank sensor is generally located on top of or underneath the front or rear of the engine closest to that specific component(camshaft or crankshaft). Generally you would look for the crank sensor near the flywheel or the harmonic balancer at the front of the engine. Lastly, the ECM does not calculate timing order by itself. There is an identifier pulse sent by the crankshaft position sensor in the form of a longer pulse. Hope this clears things up.
