Hey all,
Some of you may remember that I swapped my CRX for a 1989 Turbo Supra, which is now a 300rwhp beast... (sorry, couldn't help it)
Anyway, the point of this post is that it looks like I'm getting my crx back! How? I got a funny letter from the state police saying that the car, which is registered to me, has been in impound about 50 miles away since March 13th. I have called the guy several times, trying to talk to him about it, but he hasn't returned any of my messages. It looks like he never bothered to get it titled or get the tags changed to his name. I called the impound lot, and it's gonna cost me $500 to get it, but I'm going to go get it on Saturday. If the guy doesn't call me about it by the time 60 days is up (it would have been auctioned off by then...) I'll just apply for a new title and it will once again be mine!!! Free CRX! At that point, what do I do? Track monster? AutoX car? Sell it for mod $$ for the Supra? I dunno... we'll have to see... I sure miss the 4th gen crew...
Anyway, this was so funny I had to share!

Awesome deal mang. Of course, if you don't grab it, they can sue you for impound fees...

yeah get it out while you can
im sure he is avoiding you cause he thinks you are stuck paying the fee.
depending on condition i would get it out sell it and make the mk3 a 400rwhp beast :)

I haven't seen the crx yet, but apparently it's in good condition. (from talking to the guy at the impound lot) I don't think anyone would sue me for the fees, they just auction the car to cover the fees here. I'm gonna give the kid a couple weeks and see if he contacts me, as I've left him several messages...
I'm sure he's avoiding me, and whatever the condition, even if the motor's blown or something, it's still worth the impound fees! The car has a ZC LSD trans, full suspension, header, Si seats, Exhaust, intake, VAFC, and tons of other crap, so parts alone are worth a couple grand without the motor.
I think I'm gonna sell it, and pocket the $$ for my supra. The CRX was fun, but needs lots of work on the body, and honestly, the last thing I need is another project car!!!
I'll be picking up the car tomorrow morning at about 8am, so I'll have an update at that point... I'll put up some pics...

I forgot to ask you guys something... I'm obviously not in possession of a key to the car. I've heard that there is a number stamped somewhere that tells a locksmith how to make a new key for it. Do any of you know where it is/if it exists? Thanks!!!

If you take the vin# and can prove the car is yours, the honda dealer can make a key as long as the key cylinder hasn't been changed out before. Some locksmiths may be able to do this too.

i was told that was only cars less than 10 years old... any truth to that? if not, that's awesome.

i have an 88 and i needed a new key. If you have the original it has a four digit number stamped on it just bellow the rubber handle thing. You can walk into a dealer and get a key made from that number providing you can prove its yours. You might be able to work with the impound guy to see if he can call the dealership for you and say its for them. I mean you are picking it up and all, might as well have them help you out get a new key.
On that note though, i would be warry about the car since there is still a missing master key somewhere. Even if that guy is avoiding contacting you he might get word your car is out and about and see about raiding it for parts. I would see about getting those locks changed regardless of what your going to do with it.

Yeah, that thought has crossed my mind... it is going in the garage as soon as I get it home, so it'll be safe, but still...

Sounds like a good idea to me! Lemme tell you, if the kid wants it back, he's gonna end up paying for it!!!
I will be talking to an attorney to make sure I'm not committing a major crime, but as far as I can tell, the car is in my name so I'm responsible for it. I mean, if something bad had happened, like it was implicated in a crime, I'm sure the state wouldn't make any distinction as to who was in possession or that I had traded it to another person.

Well, it's in the garage. It just had a flat tire, so I drove it home and locked it in the garage. The title was in the car too! I'm gonna send the kid a certified letter to let him know what's up, and if he doesn't respond, it's mine. If he does respond, he's gonna have to pay to get the car back. What an idiot.
