I recently purchased a car, a 97 Nissan Maxima, it has around 65,000 on it when I got it.
I did a carfax report after learning about such a thing right after buying it. This is what I found: http://www.carfax.com/cfm/FSBO.cfm?report=CFX000008759065
Now, I asked a mechanic about it, he said it could be a clerical error .
Anyone who can give any advice on this is greatly appreciated.
A couple of things to point out, it was auctioned 3 years after it was purchased at 132K???? in 3 years??? is that possible. Another thing is the carfax report is kind of confusing, was its original owner a person or was it up for lease. If it was up for lease, what company leases cars with an average of 45K per year??
Then again, it is still possible. Advice needed, PLEASE!

If it was a corporate lease for a traveling sales guy, it could easily have had that much mileage on it.

Sold at auction in New England Region
Listed as a fleet vehicle
Based on that report, it had 132K when sold, then it has rung up another 65K after that. I'd say the car could have over 200K on it, based on the evidence. Note also in the CARFAX report that the vehicle failed emissions after the odometer mileage droppped.
On the other hand, with the clerical error, it could have had 32K at the auction, in which case the mileage could be actual, and you got a good deal.
Check the condition of the seats. Badly worn? 200K. Look fine? 65K. Have a good look at the car throughout, there will be evidence that you'll see if the car is over 200K that a detailing might not cover up.

if its an analog odometer look at it carefully and see if all the numbers line up. IF its rolled back then the numbers should usually be out of align and not centered.
