PA won't slow down

I have a 2000 PA and noticed that when I am on the road & let off the gas, this car doesn't really slow down (engine brake?) like my other vehicles do. I always seem to have to brake. If I put it in neutral at about 70 mph, the tach usually hangs around 2000 rpm for a 2-3 seconds before dropping to about 1000 rpm. When I some to a complete stop it will drop to about 700-800.

It's kind of annoying, as instead of just letting off the gas to slow down, I always have to apply the brake. I have replaced the plugs, wires, gas filter, pcv, air filter.

I'm also wondering if this could be affecting my gas mileage which is only 20 mpg combined.

Any suggestions?

Nice isn't it? You can coast a pretty good distance and not loose any speed. It's an adjustment learning to leave a little extra space in front by takinge your foot off the gas sooner than normal and I agree it makes for more work in bumper to bumper conditions. But if you crank up the tunes, get rid of the road rage deminor, lean back and relax you'll learn to enjoy your living room on wheels. If properly done you will discover the inverse, you don't need to apply the gas as much to keep up with the other cars.

Oh, and if you ever get to turn the cruise control on, I had to stop myself from joining the old lady in the backseat... This car drives itself!

can't agree with you more. by the way a nice car should roll on it's own for a while... i don't call it annoying i call it class and a joy to drive!

You said it, claaaaaaass and a JOY to drive. I checked mines today and it stays at about 2K (or pretty much where ever it is) also. I believe it's because the torque converter is locked to the engine...

I have gotten used to that on my 91. I still tend to drive the car alot harder than intended, (ive broken transmission mounts) but most of the time I chill out and enjoy the ride.
