Funny whistle noise Part 2

I finally isolated the funny whistling from my engine bay. It turns out my alternator is going bad. If I had the money I would do an upgrade to something like a Bosch High output. I know standard new ones aren't too expensive, and rebuilts are even cheaper. I'm just trying to decide what to go with. I would like a power boost from my stock Delphi though while I'm replacing it. By the way, the noise finally got bad enough where I could directly hear it. I put a tube next to it and put my ear near the other end to hunt for the sound so I'm pretty sure, that and starting my truck is harder as I seem to not have as many cranking amps. Any ideas for replacement? (The one I have now is also starting to make a grinding noise along with the whistle, sounds pretty crappy). :disappoin

I'd assume the reason it's not cranking as good is from the bearings dragging. Cranking amps come from the battery, but if the alternator is not charging the battery sufficiently, that could do it.
I would just go with a reman alternator, or if you're confident enough the rebuild yours yourself, you could buy a rebuilt kit for it, which would be much less that buying a reman. It's not that hard to do, just takes some time and patience your first time.

find a shop in your area that rebuilds alts. ask if thay can boost the output. :) a good shop mite beable to do it. some times its cheeper than a reman.

That's cool, I'll check into that. I might brush up on alternators to see if I can try a rebuild myself for fun. I might try to boost the output if possible. Anyone know how to do this?
