brake squeal

i finally put the back brakes on.. i replaced shoes, and one of the wheel cylinders(only one was bad.) and springs and hardware.. but they still squeal real loud.. i didnt have the drum turned. could that be it? or maybe need some more backing greese? I changed a leaky master cylinder when i did the back brakes. i could only bleed the front brakes.. so i dont have a lot of peddle. so what kind of wrench do i need to bleed the back ones? can i do it with a socket? because there isnt any way a wrench will fit.. any idea's would be greatly welcomed

What was wrong with the brakes before? Why didn't the drums fit?

you don't have to tell me I'm just curious?

I think that it takes a 8mm thin walled socket to bleed the back.
I had to use a short extension to get my ratchet to clear the brake line. Other than that it's the same. Just messy on your tools

The squeeling might go away after you bleed the rear brakes.

Since it sounds like you test drove it I assume that you changed the fuel pump.
I'm just wondering how it went.
Did you drop the fuel tank, or did you cut the hole in the floor?

Willy I should have mentioned, you really don't want to use grease in the brakes.

I know that you were reffering to the places where the brake shoes touch the backing plate.
They make something called anti-seaze (sorry about my bad spelling) for such things. Ask your local parts store about it.
A small jar will last you years and you'll be using it more places than you dreamed of

After all this work that you've done on your sisters Blazer I hope that she is atleast baking you your favorite deserts

well i droped the tank out... took about 3 hours and 15 mins to complete the fuel pump.. and i didnt put the greese on. i wiped it off, not thinking to put any on..i will have time to bleed the brakes this week end... i had a very hard time getting the drums on.. i had to get them started on the shoes, then take a rubber hammer and tap them on... could a drum that needs to be turned squeal like that? it stops now pretty good, just her peddle feels spongey and has a lot of travel.. so i'm 100% they need to be bled. we shall see this sunday if i can get the squeal to quit.. and it doesnt do it all the time by the way. but thatnks for the info...

P.S. she is paying me $150 bucks to do all that.. at 16 thats not bad pay.. new exhaust for the opel.. yes!!! :naughty:

my break is spongey as hell too, even after i bleed them. And i hear some people told s-10 break suck. is that right?

my brakes will launch you out the window if your not carefull.

If they're spongy then you probably have to bleed them some more.

You might have to adjust the rear brakes if bleeding them doesn't work.

not turning the rear drums doesn't usually make a difference. If you don't feel the brake pedal pulsing you probably won't need to turn them.

Some rear brakes squeel basicly for no reason at all
They do on my car (only when it rains out) to and I know that there's nothing wrong with them. So if your sure that they were done right and you have a good brake pedal just drive it for a bit and see if it gets beter

batman, you might have a leaky wheel cylinder.. but i will bleed them this weekend again and go from there.. thanks again guys..
