Serious Question concerning criminal record

Ok...I'm just gonna start the beginning of this for ya. On the 18th of February. I was workin on replacing an axle and fuel line on my truck in town at my uncles house, he has a better variety of tools then we do, and at the time had heated garage. Now that night neither of the parts we ordered were the correct ones, axle or fuel line so about 9:30 i went home in my truck and changed clothes and kinda washed up to go back into town and see who was there. Well my parents bowl every Friday night so i stopped down there, met up with a few guys i get along with, granted i rarely hang out with them but we decided to go up to a friends house and on the way up there they told me some plan the had to play a prank on our football coach that nobody likes. He's an assbag. Now the prank was to take a dead raccoon and light it on fire near his house. So we got gasoline and there were three guys goin up there, and at the last second i decided to go with. We get up close to his house and pour gasoline on the coon, and start to head up there. I get up on the front steps, no one was in the upstairs where they could've seen us and they lay the coon down and light it, i nail the doorbell and we take off. Now on his house the main floor sits above ground level so he has about a 3 ft by 3 ft landing, then 3 steps that lead down, to a 3 ft wide sidewalk, so the coon was at least 6-8 feet from his house. Now on the 11th of March I get arrested and sent to a juvenile detention for this, for four days, as does another kid. Now when I talked to the cop he said his information was correct, and that we were the only other two up there, BULLSHIT. There were two other kids so if anyone seen us they seen all FOUR of us, but i didnt' want to rat on the other two cuz one is a good friend, and if i told on the other he'd tell on my other friend, bla blah. So here it goes now, that I have three choices.
I either
a) plead innocent of the charges.
b) remain juvenile and go on strict probation(stays off of adult record) but if i at any time in the 6 months screw up it goes to adult record and such
and c) i say fuck it, pay the fines which will be anywhere from 200-300 U.S. dollars and it goes on adult record, permanently
the two charges are Wreckless Use of Fire, and Trespassing, not that big but!....
My main concern is if it goes on adult record, can this stop me from joining the Navy? I'd very much like to join the Navy, and possible train as a Navy S.E.A.L., hey, the wreckless use of fire might come in hand there right? :icon16:
I'm 17, turn 18 on June 22 so this is why they might try me as an adult because i'm so close, now it's my choice what I do, and I'm seriously concidering just paying the fines and taking the record. For the plans i have in life after high school the Navy should be the only one that can really be screwed up because of this. I'd like to then to to Wyotech and onto some car tuner possibly. Now my lawyer wants me to seriously conider keeping it off my permanent record, but i dont think i could do the 6 month probation without screwing up. and if it's under 300 dollars yank yank, i can pay for that.
So, now after all that reading my questions are....
Will the charges going on my permanent record screw my joining of the Navy?
And what do you guys all think I should do?

Just take the 6 month probabation. When they say your on probabation it doesnt mean if you get a speeding ticket your going to jail. It means that if you do another misdermeaner or felony then your in trouble. Just control urself for a couple of months, get a gf and wife it with her, or seriously go buy some new video games (long games like gta san andreas or something like that) and play the shit out of them that way it keeps you out of trouble. Just my thought. BTW I wouldnt wanna kick it with those "friends" anyway.

Option B definetely.
You save $300, and no permanent record. It will also teach you to be a little bit more responsible and it will make you think twice before you do something stupid again. I hope you'll learn your lesson.

I would go with letter B. Not just because B is my favorite letter, but because it makes the most sence. Just be good for 6 months...not that hard.

No, 240SX the probation gave me was much more strict in such, although I'm sure I could do it, even my dad said the way my luck has always been in life I'd screw up somehow, be it my fault or someone else's fault close to the end. And Claw, believe me I have learned, in truth this is by far the dumbest thing I've done in 6 months at least. I've been trying to hard to basically come clean, but it's not just something I can wake up and say, "Hey lets do a 180 on my ways and be a good little boy." I'm your typical male asshole and i dunno, like i said I rarely hung out with those guys and I have no idea why i went with that night. It's just that over the summer it could be tough to stay out of trouble, I mean I will be moving away to get a higher paying job so maybe the 6 months wouldn't be bad, I'm just not sure, I personally think that it's just something easier just to get it off of my back and not have to worry about it.

What if a future employer decides to check your criminal background? Well, it may seem easy now, but can come back and bite you later on. Generally if you have something to do, you're going to stay out of trouble. It's when you have nothing to do is when you get in trouble.

Here's a simple and best answer you'll get an here's why: I served 6 months probabtion and I've been a Navy brat my whole life so I know something about it.
GO FOR THE PROBABTION! I serve 6 months and it went by so fast and mine was worse, cause it's something i did every day. I received a wreckless driving ticket and in VA, they're pretty harsh about those. If i didn't get a ticket, I'd be fine but I drove everyday and continued to race but nothing happened. Yes, stupid and very very lucky but don't be an idiot and not take the probabtion.
Also, if your so hyped to join the Navy, one, you seem too immature but w/e. Two, ya got a record, being this is minor, more than likely they will reject you. There not running low on resources so they're not deperate and will kick ya out like nothing.

Adult record = no good, so option A or B. Go talk to a Navy recruiter about it, to get the Navy's perspective. Your lawyer should be able to get the list of evidence they will use to prosecute you, so you should be able to make a good decision about A or B.
As far as SEALS, it's tough to get it; if your ASVAB score is high enough, consider EOD (explosive ordinance disposal). My brother is in that, and he says it beats the hell out of the rest of the Navy. PM me if you want more details.

Look I was in the same situation you are in right now. I got arrested at 17. 7 Months before I shiped out for the Army, after talking to my recruter he came up with a plan to still get me out. I had to take the Diversion Program (I dont know if it is avalible in your state) witch is just like probation. But the thing is that I had not been conviced and placed on probation by a judge. For that fact even though I was on probation, according to the Army I was not. Now as for the record the Army knows about my past but you wont find anything on my civilian criminal record because its allready been erased.

From what I can remember when I was talking to a Navy recruiter years ago, the Navy will take you with a record, but your record will probably stop you if you try for OCS or SEALS. You'd have to settle for swab-jockey.

It doesnt matter its not a felony... Employers dont care about misdemeanors
And on applications it asks have you ever bin convicted of a FELONY, so he can still check NO.
I would prolly just pay the fine, cause i'm lazy like that. I dont think it will stop you from getting in the Navy. Why dont you just call up the Navy and ask them?
If its not a felony its not a big deal

I lived with a guy a few months ago that stole a car from teh dealership he worked at and then when he got caught and convicted, he instead hopped into the army. Don't know how it works, or how he did it. He was a huge sociopath, though... and straight evil. He coudl have changed his name or something. I just know he hopped into the service to get away from w/e conviction...

First thing, thank you all for your opinions and for caring.
I've decided to just pay the fines, and let it go on my record. Reasons why are as follow:
They are misdemeanors.
I have talked to a recruiter and he says that these infractions will not stop me, even from trying to be an officer. So basically what Gotti said in his thread, not the best decision, but it is the easiest. And claw, I'm doing this, I know it could kick my ass later on in life, but I cannot tell you that I'm going to live past ya know, 40 years of age or so. Hell look at Bush, he was a gadamn stoner and he's been president twice.
But Damien...why do you say that I'm immature for wanting to join the Navy? I personally think it's a hell of a career path because you can do so much once you get into there, ask anyone who's been in there the past years and I'm sure they'll tell you it was worth it and they've had a great time.

he was saying that you are too immature to join the navy, not that joining the navy makes you immature. And I agree with him. If this is only the stupidest thing youve done in 6 months, then you're immature. Add that you arent confident that you can stay out of trouble for 6 more months... thats pretty immature too. The navy will hand you your ass. AND... if you decide to pay the fines, don't think your drill sergeant won't know about your record. They make a living out of digging up your past and making you feel like shit about it to test your nerves. You'll catch a lot of shit for that stunt. Take the 6 months probation and keep your dumb ass out of trouble. Dont be stupid and settle for a criminal record.

Most of the hipe of drill sergents are overrated they dont give a damn about what you did before you joined just do you best and keep a low profile during training and you will do great trust me! As for the NAVY i think its gay but then again anyone who is in any branch of the military (except for the coast guard ) will think so. !!!!!!!!!!!!GO ARMY!!!!!!!
